HALLWAY MAKEOVER

You may remember I shared my dreams of updating our hallway in time for the festive season – well we did it!

The hallway was complete in plenty of time for me to hang garlands galore and light a million candles. It was truly lovely.

Christmas felt like an important goal and deadline for the work, but actually from the moment we waved goodbye to our trusty painters we instantly regretted not tackling this project sooner. The hallway is quite small but it’s tall and spreads up over four floors, so since giving the space some TLC it’s breathed a new life into our entire house! Everything finally feels joined and complete. Plus I can now walk on the floorboards without fear of a splinter or three!

In terms of colours, my initial thinking involved a mix of dark greys and fresh coastal whites. However I just couldn’t make up my mind and literally had to decide on the spot the morning our painters were off to buy the ummm, paint! I stuck with just two shades of white.

The floor, the bottom half of the walls, the dado rail, the skirting boards, the staircase and the doors were all painted in the delicious Shaded White from Farrow & Ball. We already have this in our kitchen, it’s such a lovely colour and changes with the light throughout the day. The higher parts to the wall were painted a simple fresh white.

We added in new lighting, finally getting rid of the huge architectural lampshades, which instantly made the space look bigger. I opted for gold dip-dyed Edison bulbs from Dyke & Dean. I adore this electrical shop and their Edison lighting is so warm and lovely!

In terms of décor, I’ve kept our Nordic lanterns on the staircase from Christmas (Couldn’t quite let go of ALL the decorations!) and everything else has pretty much stayed the same. The Ikea shoe storage and simple hooks from House Envy make it so easy to keep this area reasonably tidy!

I did add a permanent touch of green with a succulent in a concrete planter from one of my local florists in Brighton – Florian. If you ever visit, pop to this shop, they do the most amazing plants all ready to go and at a very reasonable price!
