HOME TOUR: PREZOLA

It’s fair to say I’m suffering from a rather severe case of home envy right now!  This stunning interior belongs to Ali & Dom Bevan, founders and owners of luxury wedding gift service Prezola.  I am so proud to partner with this beautiful brand on the BLOVED Edit, as well as styling with some of their colourful geo-inspired pieces for our latest style guide and working on some exciting projects (coming soon!)

With a background in interior design and styling, it’s clear to see Ali’s flair for creating an elegant yet cosy home, packed with treasures.  Her eye for detail and luxury is evident throughout the Prezola website too, curating only the best brands and most elegant pieces, any of which would make the perfect addition to any newly-weds home!  This afternoon I’m delighted to take you on a tour of their modern home photographed by Sarah Hannam, as well as an interview with this stylish couple.

Thanks so much for joining us to tell all about Prezola and your beautiful home! Can you tell us a little more about your business? Prezola is the UK’s leading independent wedding gift list company. Couples are able to add lots of gorgeous items for the home along with honeymoon funds, cash contributions and charity donations, all on one list.

Prezola started as a general gift list service but we quickly realised that this was not scalable – we were trying to be Amazon from our kitchen table! The wedding gift list is a long established tradition so with Ali’s background in interior design she saw there was a gap in the market for a more interesting gift list offering which would give couples much more choice.

Who is the ‘Prezola Couple’? We have always set out to attract style savvy couples that know their brands and what they like. Our couples tend to be busy professionals, so being able to collate their gift list easily on line is essential. The new re-branded site is optimised for iPad which allows couples to access their list on the move!

What’s your interior style? We are lucky to have developed many different types of houses, including a chicken shed which became a state of the art single storey dwelling! Therefore, our tastes are quite eclectic as we have collected various objets along the way. We are currently living in a beautiful Georgian house in Wiltshire which we love but have not had the time to develop fully as yet. Ali would call our current taste ‘Modern Country’. We still have all the lovely old features of our house, fireplaces, cornicing and stone floors but love mixing it up with more modern accessories. We love to use ambient lighting in our home (alongside numerous candles!) but like to keep these quite modern in style using brands such as Habitat and Anglepoise for table lamps. The glass lamps in our drawing room are a recent purchase from Cox & Cox! With natural flooring all over the house we love to use lots of rugs to add texture and warmth! This is another great way to add a modern touch with geometric designs from brands such as Oka or one of Ali’s favourites the Jambo Jute runner from Nkuku which adds an ethnic vibe to our WC!

What is your favourite space – at home or away? As much as we love our home we also love our holidays in the sun. Our family and working life is so hectic that every chance we get to go away we do. For the past couple of years we have visited the south of Spain for the guaranteed sunshine and usually rent a villa up in the hills – a home from home, to spend quality time with the children. Unfortunately good Wi-Fi is always on the ‘must have’ list as well as a pool! Ali is always taking snaps of anything and everything for inspiration, therefore visits to any of the local markets and cities is always on the agenda. She loves Instagram for showcasing any special ‘finds’.

Who are your favourite designers or brands? Running Prezola has opened our eyes to so many lovely brands that are currently available. We’ve always loved The White Company not just for their candles and bedding but also their lovely stone tableware which is perfect for informal dining and so easy to mix with any stylish accessories. Niki Jones is a personal favourite. Her cushions are so eye catching and a real feature on our sofa. New to Prezola this year is a company called Notre Monde who produce the most amazing mirrored and wooden trays which can also be used as tables. They are stunning!

Do you have a favourite piece from your new or current collection?  Such a hard question – we have so many! We have fallen in love with the LSA Polka Glassware used in the photo shoot. Ali loves mixing and matching as well as coloured glassware, so this range is just perfect!

How can newly-weds stamp their joint personality on their home? The best advice we can give is to choose items that really reflect your personality. Don’t be boring! You may need essentials such as bedding or towels so try and inject a bit of fun by choosing interesting brands such as Anorak or Pip Studio alongside quality staples such as The White Company. For kitchen linens we love the typography of Victoria Eggs designs. At Prezola you are able to add up to 10 items from non-partner brands so if there is something from a small boutique brand such as Pedlars or a local gallery you would like, you can add that too – your list then can look truly personal.

What trend predictions do you have for 2015?  ‘Blue’ is going to be the colour of choice for 2015, there are so many lovely shades to choose from. It is a colour that can carry so well from tableware to bedding to soft furnishings. Royal Doulton are bringing out a modern new tableware range called Pacific – it’s perfect for Ali’s mixing and matching obsession.

Bold painterly designs will also be popular this Spring/Summer. Heal’s are great at showcasing this trend in their tableware and soft furnishing departments!

Gold & Copper cutlery is also huge with new ranges appearing this year. I love the satin finish of the cutlery in our shoot from Home Address.

How do you ensure your workspace stays inspiring? We moved the business out of our home in 2012 and have a great warehouse and office space in Wiltshire for our team of 30 staff. However, when we are at home we do inevitably find ourselves working – the joys of running your own business! Our office space at home is our formal dining room which has a lovely view over the garden to keep us motivated!

What challenges have you set yourself for the next 12 months? There are lots of new ventures coming up for Prezola! We have been nominated for lots of awards which is really exciting.  Collaborating with our fellow wedding industry professionals and also our brand partners is a key part of our business plan in the year ahead – watch this space!

Tell us 5 things we don’t know about you…

  • We met at school – yes really!
  • It’s our 20th Wedding Anniversary this year – aaaah!
  • We both love red wine – probably a bit too much!
  • Ali has joined a ladies choir!
  • Dom loves cars and has had more than 50!

After a decade-long career in corporate interior design, I took a giant leap of faith, left the security of an office job, and founded B.LOVED in 2011 as a platform for romantic and beautiful wedding inspiration. Thanks to a whole lot of creativity, hard work and passion, my gamble paid off and B.LOVED became one of the leading wedding blogs in the UK.

You’ll also find me working as an Editorial Stylist, where I design and curate beautiful photoshoots for wedding and lifestyle brands, as well as contributing as a founding member of bridal inspiration hub Aisle Society, and running wedding industry community the B.LOVED Hive from our super pretty base in London. Yep, I definitely have the best job in the world.
