STUDIO TOUR: CLAIRE GRAHAM PHOTOGRAPHY
Regular readers of B.LOVED will already know the owner of this beautiful office! Claire Graham is a cherished member of our Contributor’s Network and we’ve been lucky to work with her on many events and shoot, as well as featuring her gorgeous photography on our pretty pages. Today we get to step inside the space she runs her fine art photography business from – and it’s so inspiring! With lots of lovely natural light flooding in and inspiration from magazines, books and items collected on her travels displayed prettily on her desk and shelves, it’s a complete cocoon of calmness. Plus we happen to know she made those very pretty (and yummy) cookies herself, a girl of many talents. We love.
Name: Claire Graham
Current Title + Company: Owner + Photographer, Claire Graham Photography
City: London, UK
How did you get started in the wedding industry? My photography journey began after having my third child and realising I didn’t want to go back to working as a fire alarm sales and design consultant! I had always appreciated photography and so took the opportunity and inspiration to pick up a camera and start experimenting, it quickly became my passion. I went back to college to get my qualifications, which at times was rather challenging judging my studying, 3 children and a home.
During my studies I was asked to photograph a friends wedding. At first I was terrified of the thought! After much consideration and all the faith the couple had in me, I decided I’d love to document their relationship and all the amazing people that make a wedding such an incredible day. The experience was amazing and I fell in love with weddings and everything about them.
What do you think has made your business successful? I think one of the biggest success for me, is shooting what I love. Focusing on what I’m passionate about has given me direction and helped me to prioritise. The other big success is client care. If my clients are happy with the experience I give, then they will share this with their friends and family.
The biggest mistake people make when starting their own business is fear! The truth is you’ll always have an element of doubt and lack self-confidence, but the best thing to do is ignore it and surround yourself with positive thoughts and positive people.
Where do you work + how do you make sure your space stays inspiring? As a wedding photographer, I have the best work area/backdrop! I get to travel to so many beautiful venues and countries. I find inspiration in so many different places from films, art, fashion, architect, culture and travelling.
When I need to edit any images, I do this at home on my Mac. My work area is light with natural soft colours and my desk is filled with all things that are I find pretty and have memories and meaning to me.
How would you describe your style? My style has changed from when I first started and I now consider my work to be fine art. I’m passionate about emotion and I like to document that with a combination of digital and film. I include lightly directed portraits and editorial styled still life. My goal is to provide beautiful and artistic images to my couples that are natural, luminous and romantic.
What trend predictions do you have for 2015? I think the 2015 trends are going to be all LUXE! I think we will be seeing more elegant themed weddings with off the shoulder and sophisticated wedding gowns, luxurious cakes, pretty fabric, flowers and chandeliers! I think we may even see luxurious with a hint of rustic.
What challenges have you set yourself for the next 12 months? I’d like to incorporate more film into my work and photograph more destination weddings.
