fashion flares trend 2015

YOUR FRIEND THE FLARE

Back in 1999 the kick flare jean was a firm favourite of ours. Stomping around Shoreditch in our Uni days we usually dressed in a coordinated uniform of light washed blue flares and a vintage slinky negligee top plus a multitude of cowboy boots {yes, we know, we were young and thought that was a good look}

Fast forward to 2015 and we are more than a tad pleased to see that they are back, the flares that is not the cowboy boots. Although we are designers of glamourous dresses, day to day you will usually find one or both of us in a piece of something denim, be it short shorts, an A-line skirt, denim shirt or variety of jeans. Sometimes we like to wear more than one bit for a spot of double denim but thats a whole other story. The spray on skinny has become our go to look combined with silk shirt and ankle boots and that look will always have a place in our wardrobes but some days you just feel like you need an extra swoosh in your step. On those days reach for your friend the kick flare. Whether you remember them back in the nineties and noughties, the denim flare is iconic. Jane Birkin in the 70s owned the look, all fresh faced and girl next door charm while Farrah Fawcett oozed American sex appeal with her flicked hair, honey tan and wide legged jean.

Put plain and simply, the kick flare is the ultimate in silhouette enhancer which is why we love it so. Whether you are straight up and down like an asparagus (how Alice fondly describes her own figure) these jeans will give you curves to put Kimmy to shame and if you are already shapely, and who isn’t straight after Easter and all its naughty chocolate eggs, then the kick flare is the ultimate lean, leg lengthener.

A versatile wardrobe item, you can dress them up or down and take this denim piece seamlessly from day to night. For the perfect daytime look pick a mid blue wash and style with a skinny roll neck, leather biker and some platform boots or opt for a mid calf length and pair with some low top trainers to channel your inner Farah. A dark rinse looks super stylish for an evening outfit with a delicate lace top and towering heels, somehow dressy and laid back at the same time. As a rule of thumb, we recommend balancing out the volume of flare with a tighter shape on top to avoid too much fabric swamping your frame or adding unnecessary bulk. Also hunt out and steal the belt from any man in your life to cinch in at the waist and really create that hourglass va-va voom silhouette.

So don’t be scared or shy away from the return of the kick flare, it really is a fashion friend.
