AUGIE BEAR’S FIRST BIRTHDAY BRUNCH
I knew what theme we were going to choose for Augustus’ 1st birthday brunch, as his nickname since being born has been “Augie Bear”. Though I decided on a more of a hipster black & white woodland grizzly bear theme as opposed to a cuddly cute teddy bear. Only the coolest decs for the coolest kid. We hosted the party at Boston Tea Party – the thing about 1st birthday’s is that they are kinda for the adults and family just as much as (if not more than) the kids. That’s why we hosted a brunch – everybody likes pancakes and bacon right?
I collected various supplies myself – quick trip to Homebase for succulents and terracotta pots, miniature white woodland animals, black & white marble effect balloons, black paper circle garlands, bark effect paper straws, and a mix of bark or black check paper napkins. I also made a mini crown out of pipe cleaners!
The amazing Hip Hip Hooray created the invitations, wish cards (more on this later), highchair bunting and welcome sign. It was all so perfect. I had some left over card we used for the envelope liners, so I decided to reuse these as place mats on the tables – so simple, but really made a difference to the tablescape.
Marie Green made me some bespoke cookie favours (they were delicccioouuss… my eldest Flora ate about ten!), as well as a bark tree effect tall chocolate cake which I topped with a mini succulent, white miniature bear and a single black & white candle.
I had guests (and kids) draw and write on the wish cards for us as it was something we totally missed at Augie’s naming day earlier in the year. Bad mama. The guilt made me do it again! I’ve added them to his time capsule to opened on his 18th birthday.
Both Augie and Flora’s outfits were mostly from UK store Monkey McCoy – the little black Amy & Ivor moccasins are my faves, and still used every day.
