SMILES IN THE SNOW
We all remember those mornings as a child, waking up, pulling back the curtains and discovering a soft white blanket of snow covering the garden. The whole landscape transformed into a shimmering adventure playground, pulling on hats, gloves and boots and running outside to play, make snowmen and snow angels until your lips turned blue and mum shouted for you to come back inside for a warm bowl of soup or steaming mug of hot chocolate. This scene has repeated itself all over the UK this January (infact, it feels rather appropriate that this morning London finally got it’s sprinkling of snow!), so when the Yorkshire countryside was covered in the white stuff photographer Holly from Belle & Beau ventured out to capture her two gorgeous little ones playing in the snow. It’s too cute, and i’m sure from now on a pink cat hat will be a neccesary snow-day accessory!
My husband Philip and I run Belle & Beau, a Fine Art Wedding Photography business together from home so things can get a little hectic for us sometimes bringing up our two children – but we wouldn’t change it for anything!)
As a wedding photographer, I can be so busy making photographs for other people that I am guilty of sometimes neglecting taking proper photos of my own children. I really don’t want to ever look back and regret not documenting my own family life well enough so I promised myself this year that I would make more of a conscious effort to take my camera out a lot more in between weddings and capture the little moments that may not seem like much now in the whirlwind that is life but that I know in time I will never want to forget. I always remember the quote ‘Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you will look back and realise they were the big things.
We live out on a rural farm that is quite literally in the middle of nowhere with our back garden being the Yorkshire Moors! On this day the schools had all been closed due to the heavy snowfall, so it seemed like the perfect opportunity to stick to my word and capture the special kind of fun and freedom that can only come from those two amazing words ‘School’s closed!’ :)
It only took me about 5 minutes but now I’ll always have these images to remember these special memories for them. Priceless.
What does being a mum mean to you? It means everything to us! Children have an amazing ability to bring you back down to earth and keep you grounded and to keep all things in perspective. As a business owner, they give a whole new meaning to the term ‘wealth’ and I know that the time we both have has parents with them is the richest thing we have.
