Modern black, white & pink sweetheart table

Be my sweetheart?

Black and white stripes, cascading flowers and heaps of pretty? Seriously, I adore featuring the work of Heike from Fleur le Cordeur!  Her style is instantly recognisable – not because it’s romantic, modern and architectural (which it is) but because she’s really not afraid to push the boundaries and make ideas and combinations you think can’t possibly work into head-turning creations!  So often modern floral design is style over substance, but Heike’s designs make contemporary style pretty again.  We’re just slightly jealous that it’s only South African brides who get to the full ‘Fleur le Cordeur experience’ right now (although I’m sure she could be tempted to visit!)

Romance is the order of the day with this stunning sweetheart table design created by Heike for South African TV show DaKaTv {watch it here}.  If you’re tempted to go it alone at your reception (and let’s be honest, as much as we love a top table a sweetheart table is so much more romantic) then this is the perfect inspiration!

We are finding that sweetheart tables are a huge new trend for the up and coming season. There are a few reasons for this!  Firstly, couples want an elaborate wedding, but cannot necessarily afford to have elaborate décor on all the tables.  A sweetheart table allows us to go really huge and crazy and the bride & groom can enjoy it without it breaking the bank.  We’re also finding that more and more there are politics between the parents, many parent are divorced and thus the traditional bridal table is not always possible. So to play it safe, couples opt to sit alone and not with family.  And then there’s the couples who prefer to have some time to just soak in their day and find that sitting alone allows them some moments of enjoying each other’s company without having too many people constantly trying to catch up on the last 10 years!

This particular table was inspired by a massive movement back to massive high table floral, but because the perception is that these type of floral can easily look very romantic or classic, I wanted to portray it in a modern light. The leek flowers arranged in an almost geometric way, the glass sleek table and black & white striped high back chairs all contribute to a bit of a confused modern-meets-romantic look – and we love it! We all love peonies and open roses, and this is just to demonstrate that a combination of very unlikely floral can work really well if it combined with the right elements in the right way. Everything goes, its just a matter of how! :)

And it’s so easy to recreate! Just use the more knows flowers such as roses and peonies, and pair it with something that your guests do not see on a dayly basis such as leek or onion flowers. Don’t be scared to go a little off balance, things don’t have to be symmetrical! And then, use this concept and instead of doing the same on all your tables, keep the other tables minimalistic, but then do one or two more of these on plinths around the venue or on the bar to create a little more drama.

After a decade-long career in corporate interior design, I took a giant leap of faith, left the security of an office job, and founded B.LOVED in 2011 as a platform for romantic and beautiful wedding inspiration. Thanks to a whole lot of creativity, hard work and passion, my gamble paid off and B.LOVED became one of the leading wedding blogs in the UK.

You’ll also find me working as an Editorial Stylist, where I design and curate beautiful photoshoots for wedding and lifestyle brands, as well as contributing as a founding member of bridal inspiration hub Aisle Society, and running wedding industry community the B.LOVED Hive from our super pretty base in London. Yep, I definitely have the best job in the world.
