VENUE TOUR: SUDELEY CASTLE
A little unexpectedly (thank you Louise!) I was lucky enough to visit Cotswold’s wedding venue Sudeley Castle at the end of last year, as part of a wedding planners and events lunch. It was a fantastic opportunity to view first hand this wonderful wedding venue’s event spaces and enjoy the hospitality of their onsite team.
As recent winners of the Most Romantic Place in the Cotswolds’ in this year’s Cotswolds Awards, Sudeley Castle certainly lived up to expectations – from the historic ruins, the Van Dyck, 16th-century tapestry, and Henry VIII’s widow Katherine Parr’s tomb in the castle’s church, to the delicious food, dedicated wedding team and welcoming feel you can understand why it’s such a popular tourist attraction, let alone wedding venue.
The day was a real eye-opener, expertly co-ordinated and styled by Jane Riddell of Planned for Perfection fame it showed off an amazing array of versatile entertaining space – from 50 to 500 guests it’s all on offer. We ate a heavenly lunch in the Hall – every inch the castle venue with huge wooden doors, minstrel’s gallery and suits of armour. Opening onto the terrace and magnificent gardens (with several areas available for marquees) this place is truly exceptional.
From a personal perspective it was refreshing to see such a welcoming attitude to wedding planners and stylists – the Sudeley team clearly love working with other wedding professionals and could not have been more willing to discuss ideas and answer questions – I’ve no doubt that every couple getting married at Sudeley would have the wedding of their dreams – who doesn’t want to feel like royalty on their wedding day?
Thank you to everyone at Sudeley who made the day such an informative and enjoyable day. And of course a huge thank you to all the suppliers who made the day look and taste incredible!
