WEDDINGS

EAST MEETS WEST

If you’re a fan of colour then you’re in for a big treat with today’s real wedding – because there is nothing more colourful, or that just screams summer than Carli and Raj’s amazing fusion fiesta – a real contemporary Indian wedding.

With two ceremonies, Carli and Raj combined both of their respective heritages to create the perfect day for them. There’s beautiful flowers, stunning jewellery, elegant fashion and some really striking, contemporary styling here in abundance. Oh, and did I mention it’s all set against against a perfect Californian backdrop? Enjoy…

We had met a few times before the beginning of my story at friend’s parties and in passing. But, it all started at a Kickball pub crawl. We barely even spoke, but there was something there that had us so intrigued. The following weekend we were getting on a bus with 60 of our closest kickball friends to drive 8 hours for a 3 day cruise. We talked the entire bus ride down and didn’t stop for the rest of the weekend. He asked me on a date when we got home and the rest was crazy, imperfectly perfect, totally unique and 100% ours.

We had to do distance for a year because Carli moved to Seattle for work four months after we started dating. The distance made us stronger and realize how badly we wanted to be together. Our relationship took off, making both of us happier than we had ever been. We were engaged within 8 months of meeting each other and married 10 months after that. We now own a house and have a puppy, we constantly joke that nothing about our relationship has been slow. Before we knew it we were planning my dream wedding.

Carli is a corporate event planner so she knew the first thing we needed to do was hire all the best vendors, which we truly believe we did! First up was finding a venue in Sonoma County for 300-350 people for an all-day event. Not a small task! We had seen and researched over 30 venues. We walked onto property at Trentadue and we were sold. It was absolutely beautiful, but also felt like home. From the moment we saw the venue all of our visions fell into place.

Our wedding was a combination of 2 cultures with over 300 guests. We wanted our wedding to show that we, as a couple, were capable of combining and blending our cultures. That we both wanted to keep what we grew up with, but also adopt a lot of our new family’s traditions. Our wedding transitioned from an American wedding to an Indian wedding to a great combination, showcased by Carli on the dance floor in her white dress with Indian Jewelry still on.

We also wanted our wedding to show who we were as a couple, so from Carli’s dance floor converse and popsicles to Raj’s perfect wine collection and corn-hole guest book, we felt as though our relationship and personalities came through.

For both of us one of the most memorable moments was getting to see each other for the very first time as Carli walked down the aisle in the American ceremony. But, to be fair the entire day was beyond our expectations. It was so full of love and laughter and we felt blessed to have that day. However, to be really honest the whole marriage thing is even better!!
