Hestelle & Niel’s chic blush wedding with paper flowers

Morning my b.loved’s! I’m going to jump straight in with today’s real wedding. When this beauty hit my inbox I did a little dance at my desk! As Hestelle’s favourite flowers, peonies, were out of season for their Autumn wedding, they came up with another plan. Their celebration was filled with the most beautiful, textured pale pink and ruffled paper and fabric flowers, as Hestelle says, to last a lifetime. These unique flowers weave their way through every little detail, from the strap of Hestelle’s gorgeous one-shoulder dress and veil, to Niel’s boutonnière, the bouquets, tablecentres and even the cake! In their pretty blush, white and black colour palette their day is undeniably chic, and filled with understated beauty.

The beauty of their day was captured by Cape Town photographer Celesté Prince from Aglow Photography.

Here’s Hestelle with their story ~

Our fairytale began in 2007. We met at University, I can still remember how he asked me to dance for the first time and little did I know just how much we would eventually grow to love dancing together! Niel asked me to marry him in December 2011. We took a beautiful drive to the Cape Point Lighthouse, where he proposed to me IN the lighthouse with a 180 degree view of the sea that surrounded us with a beautiful pear shaped ring! The lighthouse was very symbolic throughout our wedding as we know that we have a purpose in life to bring light, love and happiness into the lives of others.

It was the most fun, to get our dresses made and get the accessories ready for the groomsmen! I had two lovely bridesmaids that are truly the two most kind hearted people I know and two little flower girls – my sister-in-law’s twins – they were absolutely adorable! We had beautiful nude pink dresses made for all four of them, with a touch of black, with black shoes and nude swarovski bangles. The two flower girls also had little black flower head bands – it was too cute to describe! My bridesmaids also had paper flower bouquets. My dress – a dream come true – made by Alana van Heerden. I had a white one-shoulder dress with a touch of pink, draped with material flowers. I didn’t want a full length veil so I rather went for a material flower attached to a mini-veil that just covered my eyes. I also wanted plain nude shoes and at the bottom of my shoe I had a pearl heart and cross put on for the evening. My bouquet was also made by Alana from material because I really wanted to keep my wedding bouquet for ever and ever. So on the night instead of throwing my own bouquet I just threw another flower bouquet.

My husband is the most beautiful and handsome person on earth! In his charcoal suit and black tie, he really took my breath away when I walked down the isle! He had pink spiral cufflinks – which I loved – and Alana also made boutennieres for him and his 3 groomsmen. Niel’s one looked exactly the same as the flowers from my bouquet!

We chose to represent both our styles and colours in our wedding décor. We wanted a soft and sophisticated look, with a fairytale touch. Our colours were white, black and nude pink which we incorporated in every element of the wedding. With the help of dear friend and florist, Elmarie from El le Fleur, we had all our ‘flowers’ made from paper. This was due to two reasons: I love the peony flower and I love the soft look that paper flowers has. So for our wedding we wanted a no-real-flowers policy, so that we could give away the paper flowers after the wedding, but they will last forever! Our wedding inspiration mostly came from ideas that we have been dreaming about for a long time, the big white venue with an enormous dance floor – which we really did use to its fullest on our wedding day; nature, using different materials, fabrics like glass, paper, tassels etc. But most importantly we wanted to represent US! In Afrikaans we call each other ‘skapie’ which means sheep, so we had two little sheep cake toppers on our wedding cake!

The best part of the day was the moment we walked into the venue as Mr. & Mrs. Pretorius, we entered the venue with our helds held high and the song “I feel good” played !!

What was your first dance?

Our first dance on our wedding day was perfect! We loved every moment of it! We danced to Michael Bublé’s – Everything. Which is also our favourite song.

Any advice for couples currently planning their wedding?

Remember to take a few minutes on the night of your wedding to take everything in – wae took a walk outside and just observed what was going on, the magic of the night, the lights, the special people that came all the way to enjoy this day with us, and lastly to take in the fact that: YOU ARE NOW MARRIED TO THE PERSON OF YOUR DREAMS!!!

And for those of you who want MORE, hop on over to SouthBound Bride today, where Gaby is sharing some more pretty from this wedding!

Louise

After a decade-long career in corporate interior design, I took a giant leap of faith, left the security of an office job, and founded B.LOVED in 2011 as a platform for romantic and beautiful wedding inspiration. Thanks to a whole lot of creativity, hard work and passion, my gamble paid off and B.LOVED became one of the leading wedding blogs in the UK.

You’ll also find me working as an Editorial Stylist, where I design and curate beautiful photoshoots for wedding and lifestyle brands, as well as contributing as a founding member of bridal inspiration hub Aisle Society, and running wedding industry community the B.LOVED Hive from our super pretty base in London. Yep, I definitely have the best job in the world.
