There are many things I love about today’s engagement shoot. For starters, it includes a floral crown…and I have definitely harped on enough about how much I adore those. Luani has also nailed the engagement shoot style with a stunning red dress. And there is so much love between her and her fiancé Wessel that it is practically jumping off the page.
With a shoot so perfect you would never believe that the engagement happened after several failed attempts. But luckily it all came good in the end! Feast your eyes on the beautiful images captured by Carolien & Ben Photography, and then Luani herself is here to tell us all about the proposal.
We’re high school sweethearts and after 6 amazing years he finally popped the Big Question! It was a big surprise, unfortunately the actual proposal ended up to be Plan D, everything that could go wrong did but we still made the best of it! So after Plan A & B didn’t work out because of unpredictable weather conditions he had planned a surprise picnic on a balcony overlooking the whole of Johannesburg. He had pretended to work late the Friday evening – Silly me feeling sorry for him, meanwhile he was actually decorating the entire balcony with fairy lights, lanterns and endless Polaroid images of our 6 year journey.
When Saturday arrived I was led to believe that both my now fiancé and his friend, Francois, planned a surprise for myself and my best friend, Illana, Francois’ girlfriend. I of course believed that the whole idea was Francois’ as he’s such a romantic. Unfortunately on our way to his flat we drove past the balcony where he realized that the weather had ruined all his hard work so he had to think fast and Plan D happened. We arrived at his flat in Johannesburg where both myself and my best friend was surprized with a Gorgeous new dress, heels, accessories and make-up to dolly ourselves up a bit. He knew I would want to look pretty for the big moment.
He then took us to a stunning hotel in Johannesburg where we had a cocktail and where we supposedly celebrated friendship, wink wink… He then arranged for us to be moved to a private restaurant overlooking the whole of Johannesburg. I then suggested that we take a couple of pictures to capture the day, Wessel and I posed first and Francois asked that we stand a little more to the left and as I turned to hold him I was surprised with him down on one knee! It was such a special moment, we celebrated with champagne and later an 8 course amazing wine pairing to soak up the feeling of being engaged finally!
