inspiration board #54: navy & pink

Hello gorgeous brides-to-be! Wasn’t it the most beautiful sunny weekend! For those of you who got married, or had their engagement shoots over the last few days you have been treated to the most gorgeous spring light and blooms too!  I’ve been catching up with some favourite suppliers and photographers to line up some super content to share over the next few weeks and months, as well as spending a lazy Sunday with family celebrating with a belated Mother’s Day lunch :)

I’m really quite excited about today’s inspiration board, a scheme that would easily translate into most kinds of wedding, whether a civil ceremony in a grand country mansion, an outdoor garden wedding or even a beach wedding!  The base colour of this board, navy, is universally flattering and gives a preppy edge to any scheme.  Classic yet undeniably crisp and modern, it’s a great colour to dress your groomsmen and bridesmaids.  For a traditional wedding, team with a navy waistcoat and pink tie for the men, and dress your maid’s in long column style dresses for a sophisticated, grown up look.  For a more relaxed vibe, a crisp white shirt and trendy patterned bow tie looks cool for the guys, whilst short dresses with ruffles or a subtle pattern gives the girls a cute summery look.  Navy gives a great base for your other colours to pop! Team hot pink roses, peonies and dahlia’s with paler pinks and shots of lime green or yellow for a fun contemporary look.  Simple, clean lines work well too, a strip of striped ribbon tied around napkins at each place setting creating an elegant final touch.  Less is more again with the stationery, a combination of an elegant scriptive font in navy, with fun pops of pink in a quirky font give guests a hint of your wedding theme without giving too much away.  Unexpected flashes of colour, like hot pink shoes for the bride and bridesmaids, and coordinating socks for the groom and groomsmen hint at the cheeky, playful nature of the newlyweds.

From a practical perspective, it’s always easy to find clothing, props and flowers in these colours, whatever the time of year.  So for those of you with a short timescale or overseas wedding you can relax knowing sourcing those special details should be a piece of (wedding!) cake!
