inspiration for a fairytale wedding

Morning pretties!  It’s confession time… I know you’ve all dreamt about your fairytale wedding at some point, probably aged about four, rocking a Disney princess costume and twirling around the living room if you’re anything like me ;)  Most of us will say we’ve grown out of those dreams with the reality of a wedding day to plan, but today I want to indulge in a little fairytale inspiration.

Makeup artist Lisa Alger got in touch to tell me about her vision of recreating some of our favourite fairytales with a modern twist.  Perfect inspiration for today’s romantic bride looking to bring her childhood dreams up to date.  Working with storyteller photographer James Robertshaw, and a team of wonderful wedding suppliers, they used the interior of Down Hall to reflect the personalities of each character.

Belle’s story is instantly recognisable from the sweet yellow & blue colour palette.  Her fairytale tulle-skirted dress is befitting of any princess bride, with a subtly sparkling pomander a lovely alternative to a traditional hand-tied bouquet.  A gorgeous up do with loose curls topped with a beautiful floral side tiara, and neutral makeup simply enhance her natural beauty.  Delicate white roses decorate a simple three-tier iced cake adding a romantic touch to an otherwise classic design and a yellow ribbon  lending a colourful touch.  Elegant stationery pulls the colours together, with beautiful script fonts and damask style patterns.

The most classic of all the stories, Cinderella requires the most romantic of wedding styles!  An elegant dusky pink and gold palette echoes through the stationery, flowers and details while her hand-painted shoes tell her beautiful story.  The twisting tendrils and trailing flowers work their way heart-shaped symbols, reminiscent of the most loved storybook.

Set in the eerie depths of the forest, the pure white of Snow White’s dress and the touches of red make her stand out as a touch of light in the darkness of the trees.  Woodland themed stationery carries the theme through the day, with apple red macarons and cupcakes adding whimsical touches.  A temptingly delicious naked cake covered in juicy red berries completes the look. Yum!

Are you tempted to incorporate a few fairytale touches into your day? What’s your favourite story?

After a decade-long career in corporate interior design, I took a giant leap of faith, left the security of an office job, and founded B.LOVED in 2011 as a platform for romantic and beautiful wedding inspiration. Thanks to a whole lot of creativity, hard work and passion, my gamble paid off and B.LOVED became one of the leading wedding blogs in the UK.

You’ll also find me working as an Editorial Stylist, where I design and curate beautiful photoshoots for wedding and lifestyle brands, as well as contributing as a founding member of bridal inspiration hub Aisle Society, and running wedding industry community the B.LOVED Hive from our super pretty base in London. Yep, I definitely have the best job in the world.
