WEDDINGS

it’s all in the details #7: whimsical woodland

Good morning stylish brides! And happy 1st December, now the Christmas countdown really begins, eeek!!

Today I want to share with you my ideas for styling a woodland wedding. With a touch of whimsy and natural, rustic decor I love the potential of this theme for all kinds of country weddings, maybe in a barn or even venturing out to a forest venue like Forever Green or Coombe Farm & Woodlands. Although using natural materials is key to this theme, it’s not just for the eco-bride, with careful coordination you can create a natural and elegant look.

Borrow nature’s palette and combine fresh moss greens with rich golds and browns for a warm and rustic look. Add a pop of red or orange for a whimsical touch.

I am so completely head over heels for this amazing stationery set seen on Oh So Beautiful Paper, not only is this invite lasercut with pop up trees a DIY (!), but the rest of the suite is just as awesome! Check it out here. The natural colour palette against the crisp white creates an elegant, rustic look.

Keeping the natural, organic look this faux bois (wood) invitation suite keeps things simple but with an unexpected twist. I love the pencil illustrations too! For a more whimiscal wedding, this quirky mountain & woodland invite design might just fit the bill, how cute is the stag and deer?! Playing around with materials, and keeping the colour palette natural and limited really works with this theme.

A beautiful mix of fresh moss, forest flowers and woodland foliage create this whimsical bouquet that reminds me of the forest scenes in Disney movie Snow White. The little white touches prevent the bouquet from feeling too dark and heavy. The poppy pods, scabiosa seeds and brunia bouquet is much more structured and modern, the mint green lamb’s ear adds a touch of velvety softness.

For an elegant approach mix huge soft white blooms with woodland berries and foliage. Add a pop of colour, feathers and an eclectic mix of foliage to create a whimsical bouquet with wow factor!

Using natural materials, that relate back to your woodland surrounding on your tables and decor reinforce the sense of being in the forest. Beautiful branches and tree stumps can be used in all kinds of ways, from candle holders to escort card holders, place mats and table centres.

Small details, like these mini deer ornaments and mini toadstools add a touch of fun and whimsy to the tablescapes.

A rustic take on an elegant white ices three-tier cake with foliage and forest decor displayed on a piece of timber creates a beautiful center piece. If you love the wood effect invites above, what about a faux bois cake wrapped in chocolate for an authentic colour?

For a more eclectic look this four-tier red cake creates a real statement, a fun and playful take on the woodland theme. Finally, this oh so elegant soft pink mushroom adorned cake, who knew mushrooms could be so pretty?!
