WEDDINGS

it’s all in the details: ten ways with mason jars

Welcome to another It’s All in the Details Thursday! Can I let you into a secret? It’s one of my favourite days of the week, sharing some of my styling tips!

One of the details to take the wedding world by storm over the past couple of years has been the mason jar.  A trend that started in the US has ventured across the Atlantic to the UK and Europe and fast become a DIY wedding staple.  Mason jars are easy to come across (ok, so they don’t sound as romantic, but in the UK the humble jam jar makes a pretty good substitution for the real thing), easily collectable and affordable, they can be used in a multitude of fun and creative ways.  From a simple ribbon to an overload of burlap and lace, an added wire to make a hanging lantern, or dipped in dye to make a coloured vase, the versatility of the mason jar makes it easy to see why this is such a popular trend!

So here’s a few of my favourite ideas to incorporate them into your big day!

fill with flowers

Whether coloured or clear, prettied up with ribbon or simply filled with water, mason jars make great vases for hand-tied and rustic table centres.  With the addition of a little string or twine, you can even make a pretty display to line your aisle.

creative lighting

Fill with candles for a pretty outdoor hanging display, or get creative with wiring and make a mason jar chandelier just like this one.

Another idea I love is this rustic chandelier, hanging over your reception tables at a barn or outdoor wedding, the soft candlelight would create a beautiful warm glow over your tables at night.

rustic touches

Mason jars are the staple of any rustic wedding (just ask Erin from Sparkle & Hay!), with the addition of a little burlap, lace and twine you can transform a plain jar into a pretty centrepiece in no time!

perfect for drinks

Crammed with fruit and decorated with pretty straws and flags, mason jars make a cute (and thrifty) alternative to traditional glassware for your pre-dinner drinks.

escort cards

Add a label to each mason jar for a quirky escort card table display, you could even invite your guests to take their jar for their drinks or to fill up at your candy bar.

foodie favours

{1. spread the love jam jar favours from Wedding in a Teacup via b.loved weddings, 2. ice cream favour jars by Pen & Paper Flowers via Emmaline Bride, 3. cupcake in a jar by BrittRene Photo via Style Me Pretty}

For a fun, and keep-able wedding favour, why not fill jars with something yummy?  I love these ‘spread the love’ favours from Wedding in a Teacup, and how cute is the ice cream favour jar for a summer’s day wedding?!

photo holders

{1. mason jar photo holder by Jessamyn Harris via Style Me Pretty, 2. photo holder jars by Blink Photography via Inspired by This}

I love this alternative idea for displaying photo’s, whether they’re family snaps, heirloom photo’s of your relatives on their wedding day, or loved-up images from your engagement session, this is a pretty personal touch!

candy bar jars

b.loved couple Jo & Nigel created a fabulous DIY candy bar using old jars for their country marquee wedding, why not recreate the look, adding vintage ribbon and cute labels to your mason jars?

perfect match

{strike anywhere match jars via Ruffled}

Such a cute detail for a cigar bar or sparkler send off, add a circle of fine grit paper to the lid of a mason jar, and fill with matches for an easy & pretty way to display your ‘perfect match’

something for the kids

Last but not least, how about something fun for the little ones?! This is possibly one of the cutest & prettiest kiddies wedding favour I’ve seen, and sure to keep them occupied for hours!
