love shoot #4: french romance {caroline & ned}

Today’s couple, Caroline and Ned, were married in a real life French Chateau!

Originally from Australia, but now based in the UK, Caroline and Ned couldn’t decide where to get married.  They both love France, and as soon as they saw Chateau de la Couronne on the Mr & Mrs Smith website, the decision was made.  So, 90 of their friends and family, along with their fabulous photographer Charley Smith, descended on the tiny village of Marthon, and hosted celebration that lasted four amazing days!

I spoke to lovely bride Caroline about how they met

Ned and I met through mutual friends in what has to be one of London’s most terrible nightclubs (it shall remain nameless)!  We kept bumping into each other over the course of about 12 months and then finally got together at a friend’s birthday party in Islington.

Ned proposed after we had been seeing each other for about 3 ½ years.  We were staying at the Crazy Bear Hotel in Stadhampton (amazing!).  After a lovely dinner he proposed when we were back in our room.  I was completely shocked and for the first time in my life speechless.  He had to prompt me to answer him (clearly I said yes!).

I decided not to have any bridesmaids (other than my sister who is my best friend) as it was too hard picking them and I thought having 10 was a bit ridiculous.  I had all of my girl friends come and get ready with me on the day of the wedding.  It was absolute chaos towards the end, but I loved every minute of it!

Caroline’s beautifully simple Pronovias gown

This little one is completely awestruck by the vision of Caroline emerging as the most stunning bride!

I made special efforts to include my close friends in our wedding as much as I could.  I had one give a speech, others give readings, one sang and one of my close friend’s son was the page boy.

I wish I could say that we had a theme for our wedding, but I was not that organised!  The details that were special to me were my friends.  We both wanted a party for our friends and family rather than anything too formal or traditional which is why we chose to hire Chateau de la Couronne.  We hired the chateau for four days and people were invited to spend as much as the time with us as they wanted – so there was lots of time to drink wine, have yummy meals and spend time together.

I did look at a few magazines but they all start to say the same thing after a while.  I think my favourite site was Etsy in the US which is an amazing website for inspiration and ideas.  Nicky (owner of the Chateau) helped enormously and was able to point me to the best suppliers that were largely local to Marthon.

This series of couple portraits by Charley Smith is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful sets I have ever seen.   The simplicity of the images completely capture the beautiful and serene atmosphere of the day.

I believe choosing suppliers you can trust are key to a successful destination wedding.  Caroline was keen to share her experiences with us

It is only after the wedding was over that I realised the true value of having a good wedding photographer.  The amazing photos Charley took of our wedding will remain with us for the rest of our lives.  Whenever I look at them the whole day comes flooding back.  It takes a very clever photographer to be able to do that and Charley does not come recommended highly enough!

I could not recommend Chateau de la Couronne or the owners, Nicky and Mark Cooper more highly.  They gave us our perfect wedding. We absolutely love it and will always remember it so fondly.

Marianne from Ditsy Chic Stationery – she is FABULOUS and so creative!

Our dance instructor, Caroline from The Factory, who somehow managed to get Ned and I to be able to dance together.

What was your lasting memory of the day?

My cheeks being sore from smiling too much.

What advice would you give other brides?

Relax – no one wants to be at a wedding where the bride is stressed!

What was your first dance, and how did you choose the song?

Wonderful Person by the Black Masses.  I have loved this song for a long time but never knew what it was called / who the artist was.  Shortly after Ned and I started dating he played it to me and was able to enlighten me what it was.  Oh … and of course … Ned is a wonderful person!

Thank you Caroline and Ned for sharing your amazing day with us!  I wish you many years of happiness.

Thank you also to the brilliant Charley Smith for the beautiful images.
