Marelize & Hoepie’s Blush Pink Winter Wedding
Oh. My. Word. Today’s wedding is just beyond beautiful! Marelize & Hoepie’s blush pink winter wedding is filled with exquisite, delicate details. From the lace detailing on the bride’s dress to the cosy cardigans worn by the groomsmen, crisp white and soft pink flowers to the dessert bar, every element of their day was perfectly considered by bride & groom, and beautifully captured by Yolandé Marx. I love that before the ceremony, Marelize grabbed a few quiet moments with her bridesmaids over a cup of tea, and that their guests showered them with crèpe streamers rather than confetti! And I totally adore the soft winter sunlight of their couple portraits, and very cool classic car!

We met, through friends, at Worcester Skou’s stock car race, a VERY random event! Hoepie proposed two and a half years later at Rooi Els, a tiny nature reserve on the South African coast. He organised with staff from a well known restaurant in the area to take a basket with French Champagne, glasses, a blanket, his guitar and an umbrella. It was so perfect and special. I suspected nothing, as it started out a very ordinary Thursday. We first had a drink at the restaurant and when we afterwards took a walk along the beach, we eventually got to “the spot”. It was so romantic. Hoepie sang me a song that he wrote especially for me, and I just sat there, smiling, in the drizzling rain.
My stunning dress was made by Didi Couture. I loved it because it was so comfortable and I felt absolutely amazing wearing it. The initial design changed a little with every fitting, as Didi got to know me each time a little better. She wanted the dress to reflect my personality in the best way possible. That was very special to me. She not only made the dress I had pictured from the beginning, but she perfected it to suit my personality. She is an amazing designer/artist, giving the best professional advice and very passionate about her work. I gathered a few pictures of hair styles. Luckily it was not difficult for me to decide, as I immediately knew what I like. I did not have any pictures to show my make-up artist though, but told her I want a romantic, smokey, but still natural look.
I decided on elegant and feminine lace dresses with a warm, wintery, soft pink colour for the bridesmaid dresses. The grooms wore pink bow ties and grey cardigans. Hoepie and I both decided on styles, colours and looks we both like which we incorporated into the final look we wanted for them.
We got married in the church in Riebeek Kasteel. The Venue was at Delsma farm. The venue is stylish, cozy, warm and the people that we worked with there was so helpful and went the extra mile for us. I found my inspiration mostly on Pinterest, as it gave me very original ideas. But I also got a lot of inspiration from The Pretty Blog and local wedding photographers’ blogs.
I love photo’s and inspirational quotes and saying, so incorporated them very much into everything, from our invite website, menu, church flyers, etc.
Our florist combined local winter blooms with contemporary displays. We had lots of proteas (Brenda, Susara, Lady Di and Blushing Brides) all adding dusky pink tones as well as blush desert roses, orchids tulips in blush pink and white. We added brunia and succulents for wintery touches of silver.
A friend of mine told me about Yolandé Marx. We enjoyed it so much working with her. We laughed a lot, she made us feel very comfortable and relaxed before the camera and we all had loads of fun.
Walking down the aisle, seeing all my favourite people and most important, my husband to be!
Our day could not have been more perfect. To all the brides-to-be: planning your wedding could be very stressful, therefore you have to remind yourself every once and a while what it is all about: not about other people or what they will think about the day, It’s about you, your husband and the covenant you make with God. You invite people to celebrate the day with you, not to impress them. As soon as you realise that, everything will come into perspective and your wedding day will have so much more meaning and depth. Try to relax and enjoy the planning and when that day comes, you will see, it will be the best day of your life.
