Modern Victoriana

We have such a wonderfully elegant wedding inspiration for you today styled by Lovestruck Weddings! Here is Rachael to tell you about the inspiration behind Modern Victoriana and all the lovely details! “The inspiration behind this shoot came from our beautiful venue, the Grade II listed, 19th century conservatory at The Horniman Museum and Gardens in South East London. We wanted to create a modern take on Victorian wedding styling with a heavy focus on florals and translucent materials to tie in with the stunning conservatory setting. I knew from the beginning that the venue would be perfectly match the depth and character that film photography can offer and was delighted to work with the supremely talented Faye Cornhill Photography!”

“Our first Bridal look is the exquisite ‘Ravello’ by Stephanie Allin. Its off-shoulder style was traditionally reminiscent of the Victorian era and the full skirt made for some fabulous poses against the ceremony backdrop.  Kylie McMichael created natural, delicate make up before styling her hair into loose waves. The look was completed with fabulous accessories by Britten Weddings including their ‘Cora’ drop earrings, ‘Fleur’ pearl and crystal cuff and the incredible cathedral length ‘Lucia’ veil. For the second look we opted for a super modern twist on Victorian style using bridal separates from Sassi Holford’s So Sassi diffusion range. ‘Fearne’ features a cropped lace top with illusion neckline and a fun, layered tulle skirt. The delightful Groom look was a dashing royal blue suit and simple viburnum berry buttonhole.

The Maid of Honour wears a Needle & Thread gown has beautiful motifs, inspired by Victorian lace trims and depicted in sparkling cut bead and stones – a perfect fit for the theme! We added shoes by Harriet Wilde; the pretty ‘Marina Daisy’ design features a classic peep toe and delicate silver and crystal embellishments to the heel.

To create the tablescape styling I started with crisp white linen and bistro style furniture draped with Lancaster & Cornish silk fabric. Each place setting featured scalloped white crockery, antique silver cutlery and cut glass drinkware. The table included Bluesky Flowers fabulous floristry with a classic urn display surrounded by vintage glass candlesticks that held a mixture of white and crimson candles! The look was completed with subtle vellum place cards by Oh Wonder Calligraphy. Last but most definitely not least, cake designer, Little Bear Cakery interpreted the photoshoot theme with a stunning grey, 4-tier design that featured elegant silver bas-relief detail and a cascading mix of modern and garden sugar roses that could easily be mistaken for the real thing!

We were lucky to also have the photoshoot captured on another kind of film too courtesy of videographer duo Laura and Alan of This Modern Revelry. which you can also see here.”
