Quiet Moments, Advice for Getting Ready on Your Wedding Day
Wedding stylist Kate Cullen of the Fine Art Wedding Boutique shares a beautiful shoot with Bowtie + Belle Photography about the serene quieter moments you can enjoy on your wedding day during your bridal preparations! Here Kate also gives her expert advice about how to make this fleeting time stress free and special! “Getting ready on your wedding day morning can be one of the best, and sometimes most nerve-wracking experiences. Our shoot captured one of those quiet moments – taking time to read your vows,or a note from your husband-to-be can be a very special, reflective moment as you leave your single life behind.
As a wedding stylist I often see the bride getting ready, surrounded by an entourage of excited bridesmaids, emotional parents and hair and make up artists – this should be a really special time, but I think it is important to make sure that you get some time alone too. Taking half an hour to mentally and emotionally prepare yourself for the day ahead, alone, and in peace. Try and also eat a light breakfast – you may be too full of nerves to eat much, but we all know champagne on an empty stomach isn’t ideal! It will also prepare you for the fact that you’ll spend a lot of time on your feet, talking to friends and family and dancing the night away.
Assign your maid of honour or bridesmaid to be the spokesperson so you don’t have to answer any little query that may come from your suppliers – this really is time to enjoy the moment and let all your planning go to good effect. Try not get involved in what’s going on in your venue – your suppliers and/or stylist/planner will have everything under control, leaving you to focus on getting married and having the time of your life. Make sure you surround yourself with only those people who you know will keep you calm and be your support – you don’t have to have your entire bridal party with you all morning if you prefer. Then put on that dress and enjoy every moment!”
Photographers Bowtie & Belle also have some fabulous tips to help you get the most from your wedding morning photography:
“Ensure you have a good amount of contingency time in case any thing runs over schedule. The wedding morning is full of excitement and anticipation and you want to remember that moment, so create a relaxed environment. Light candles, put on your favourite music and enjoy.
Ensure the room you get ready in is well lit. For beautiful hair and makeup shots, choose a spot that has lots of natural light. This will provide a soft and dreamy quality to your images. Don’t forget the details – make sure to have your bridal accessories, perfume, shoes and flowers to hand as it’s these that add to the story. Choose something that’s comfortable to wear, but that also makes you feel extra special. Neutral colours always photograph beautifully.
To capture these moments as you might on a real wedding day we created a bridal bedroom scene that showed a warm, cosy and contemplative feel. With a hand written love note to the groom along with the groomsmen’s buttonholes, the wedding ring stands and jewellery. The stunning lace lingerie perfectly paired with the soft knitwear gave a soft femininity whilst exuding luxurious elegance.”
“We kept the bridal look soft and natural to reflect the farmhouse location, with the little luxe touches of sparkling hair accessories and jewellery a hint of the full bridal look not seen – the perfect elegant country wedding. The Kelly Spence luxury bridal knitwear collection was borne as a result of hearing from our brides of their struggle to find elegant, stylish yet simple cover-ups to wear with their fashion forward gowns. This first collection takes its inspiration from the wild Highlands and Islands of Scotland with designs that are unstructured and organic yet with our signature clean lines. Each piece was designed to take advantage of the exquisitely luxurious yarns we have used, from the crème de la crème of Italian cashmeres in the Isla backless cape to the ultra fine superkid mohair in the Skye tasselled wrap. We are also super proud that all of our pieces are completely hand made in the UK by our skilled artisans on hand framed vintage machines.
The selected pieces from the collection seen here are available to buy from the Fine Art Wedding Boutique.”
