floral recipe: rainbow wedding flowers
Woohoo, it’s Friday!! What are your plans for the weekend? I’m getting into major scheduling mode to prepare the next couple of weeks posts as I’m off to France next week with Anneli and a team of wonderful wedding folk, styling a shoot at a beautiful new wedding venue! I’m really excited about this one, not just because it’s in France and a chance for a little weekend away, but it’s going to be full of details you can easily recreate for your own big day.
Speaking of which, back in the Autumn I was asked by Wedding Magazine to style a Rainbow themed lifestyle shoot for their November / December issue. We had a lot of fun creating some colourful wedding inspiration, with pompoms, laser cut stationery, ribbons and candy, but today I want to tell you all about the flowers!
The centrepiece for the shoot was an incredible rainbow table runner created by the fabulous William Clarke Flowers. I asked William to create a piece with real w0w-factor, fading from yellow, orange and red, to pink, lilac and purple. All the colours of the rainbow! I set the table with complimentary table settings, coloured napkins coordinated with the flowers, stationery and ribbons for a simple but effective look.
Yellow: yellow dahlia, yellow freesia, yellow calla, yellow Craspedia complimented with alchemilla foliage
Orange: orange mango calla, orange ranunculas, orange babe spray rose, complimented with croton leaves
Red: red hypericum berries, grand prix red rose, red dahlia, red calla, complimented with cotinus
Pink: pink ranunculas, pink lovely Lydia spray rose, pink hydrangea complimented with rolled pink cordyline leaves
Lilac: lilac hydrangea, lilac freesia, lilac lizianthus complimented with silver eucalyptus and acacia foliage
Purple: Purple hydrangea, purple Vanda orchids, purple veronica complimented with silver eucalyptus and acacia foliage.
We also created a series of amazing coordinating bouquets for the bride and bridesmaids, from a fabulous multicolour bouquet for the bride and a series of colour-block bouquets for the ‘maids!
Purple veronica, lilac freesia, pink ranunculus, red dahlia, orange ranunculus, orange spray rose, yellow crespedia, yellow calla lillies complemented by alchemilla and loops of bear grass.
Yellow bouquet: Yellow Dahlia, Yellow freesia, Craspedia and yellow illios roses complimented with lime green alchemilla.
Orange bouquet: Orange mango calla lillies, orange ranunculus and orange babe spray rose complimented with oak leaves and rosehips.
Red bouquet: Red hypericum berries, grand prix red roses, red dahlia and red calla lily complimented with ming fern and loops of china grass.
Pink bouquet: Pink ranunculus, lovely Lydia pink spray rose and pink hydrangea complimented by rolled pink cordyline leaves.
Purple bouquet: Purple hydrangea, purple vanda orchids, purple veronica, lilac lisianthas, lilac freesia complimented with eucalyptus and acacia.
You can recreate this look for your wedding in so many ways! Create the same effect as the runner with smaller, block coloured arrangements, placed along a long reception table. If your venue has circular tables, why not theme each table with a different colour? Or, for a more relaxed look use multicoloured arrangements in mismatched vases and bottles.
