WEDDINGS

real wedding: a cymbeline dress for a tiffany blue wedding {arusha & arjen}

I love to share a couple’s whole story, from how they first met and the romantic proposals, right through to their wedding day to the last dance!  Arusha and Arjen’s love shoot was featured here on b.loved a couple of months ago, and today I’m thrilled to complete their story.  This stunning couple planned a gorgeous wedding, complete with an oh-my-gosh-it’s-so-beautiful Cymbeline dress and stylish Tiffany blue colour scheme.  I’m also excited to share one of our very first outdoor weddings, with Arusha and Arjen choosing to brave the Dutch weather and host their reception outside in the beautiful afternoon sunlight, all perfectly captured by photographer Anouschka Rokebrand.

We met at the theatre on a school trip, just before the end of the show I wrote my name and number on a piece of paper and pressed it into his hands! He called the next day… In January 2011 we went to Iceland. We’d just came back from a big trip through South-America where I had kind of expected him to ask me, so his proposal caught me completely of guard!  Arjen had planned a night at the magical Blue Lagoon, with bright blue warm water contrasting with the freezing temperature above water!  He led me to a secluded area of the pool and sat me down, went down on one knee in the water and asked me.  Of course I said yes!

I tried on so many dresses! Most were either way SO heavy or they just didn’t feel like ‘me’. When I tried on this dress I already felt happy in it, even though I hadn’t seen myself in it because this dress was light as a feather. When I saw myself in the mirror I felt like dancing (that’s a good sign) and my wedding dress committee  (my mum and friends!) found the dress completely me!  Classy, but fun with an edge!

More than anything we wanted all our friends and family to join us on our special day. We looked at so many venues; the main focus was that we must be able to plan the whole day there (ceremony, cake moment, dinner, party, accommodation and brunch the day after).  We wanted a beautiful outside setting, but we wanted to make sure we wouldn’t get disappointed if the weather wasn’t good (we’re still in Holland;))  so the interior was also important. We immediately fell in love with the Orangerie Groot Warnsborn. We loved it! Once you arrive at THE place, you instantly know, this is it!

Our theme was ‘something blue’ in honour of the Blue Lagoon! A hint of blue was integrated in all the details and all the guest had ‘something blue’.

What was your first dance, and how did you choose the song?

We danced a tango – he’s more of a ballroom dancer, but I come from a Latin family! We’re both in love with Argentina… so choosing a tango made good sense to the both of us. We choose based on the emotions we felt hearing this song and some guidance from our dancing teacher.

What was your favourite part of the day?

The arrival and the dinner, without a second thought.  The arrival, because that’s the first you see everybody. And everybody looked so beautiful, cheerful and happy for us.  Sitting down with our closest friends and family. Those are the moments you really feel so rich and blessed for them to be in our lives and them sharing this special moment with us. That made an already perfect day, even more perfect!

Do you have any advice for couples currently planning their wedding?

ENJOY…every moment of the planning towards the big day. Spread things, don’t try to organize everything at once. Take you time and make it special. Don’t stress out, it will just ruin your ‘butterfly feeling’ And trust others around you doing their very best making your day a perfect one. Our masters of ceremony were completely responsible for the look and feel of the location – we knew nothing. The did such a magnificent job and it was nice to be surprised on that day. That was part of the fun –  being surprised and not knowing everything in advance. So don’t try to have grip on everything, just let it go and enjoy every step of it!

Louise

After a decade-long career in corporate interior design, I took a giant leap of faith, left the security of an office job, and founded B.LOVED in 2011 as a platform for romantic and beautiful wedding inspiration. Thanks to a whole lot of creativity, hard work and passion, my gamble paid off and B.LOVED became one of the leading wedding blogs in the UK.

You’ll also find me working as an Editorial Stylist, where I design and curate beautiful photoshoots for wedding and lifestyle brands, as well as contributing as a founding member of bridal inspiration hub Aisle Society, and running wedding industry community the B.LOVED Hive from our super pretty base in London. Yep, I definitely have the best job in the world.
