Back to Melanie ~

I have always been captivated by the beauty of the Mediterranean, especially the pastel hues along the coastline of Greece & Italy. We both decided that we wanted a modern twist on an otherwise rustic idea and that was exactly what we got. We decided on the following colours for our wedding: turquoise, grey, green, white & aqua with slight hints of coral and stone. We still wanted the romantic idea of some sentimental touches, so we personalized our seating chart (a printed canvas with one of our engagement shoot pictures) with small little brooches and custom made napkins for the guests to take home as gifts.

We also had a dessert table with little printed boxes that guests could fill with the most delicious assortment of old-school candy & hand-made traditional mini desserts, like “koeksisters” (a definite MUST for any South African wedding) that my precious grandma made especially for our wedding.

What was your favourite part of the day?
For myself – The 5 seconds with my dad before entering the church. For us as newlyweds – Our first kiss, first dance & first piece of cake as Mr & Mrs Verwey! Where else can you do dessert before mains without feeling guilty? :) Also, having all our closest family & friends at our reception to celebrate the beginning of our new life together was such a complete blessing & honour!

What was your first dance, and how did you choose the song?
We entered the reception area and had our first dance immediately after we cut our wedding cake. We then opened the dance floor on the song “Enchanted” by Taylor Swift from the movie “The Vow”. It held such meaning for us that we just HAD to make our own new memories on our wedding day – it was almost like a silent promise to each other.

Do you have any advice for couples currently planning their wedding?
1) Make time to enjoy planning your wedding. Time flies, so don’t fret about other people imposing ideas on you. This is YOUR day, be direct about your decisions and also try to listen to ideas that family & friends might want to give.
2) Budget – Get those quotes & compare EVERYTHING, make sure you know whether “hidden costs” are involved.
3) Use a planner – if you have a fast-paced job (like I do) a wedding planner is a definite MUST. Luckily, I had a GREAT friend coordinating mine, make sure you use a professional.

And if that wasn’t enough love and romance for one day, Melanie has kindly shared her wedding video too! I was grinning like a completely love-obsessed thing when I watched this! I guarantee you will be too (even if you don’t understand Afrikaans!)

After a decade-long career in corporate interior design, I took a giant leap of faith, left the security of an office job, and founded B.LOVED in 2011 as a platform for romantic and beautiful wedding inspiration. Thanks to a whole lot of creativity, hard work and passion, my gamble paid off and B.LOVED became one of the leading wedding blogs in the UK.

You’ll also find me working as an Editorial Stylist, where I design and curate beautiful photoshoots for wedding and lifestyle brands, as well as contributing as a founding member of bridal inspiration hub Aisle Society, and running wedding industry community the B.LOVED Hive from our super pretty base in London. Yep, I definitely have the best job in the world.
