Morning lovelies! I am so thrilled to share the work of fab photography duo EFC Photography today. I love working with these two gorgeous ladies (our recent pink & aqua collaboration was featured on Love My Dress recently, more here soon!) and looking at today’s wedding photo’s you’ll see why. With a contemporary twist on classic photography style their work is immediately recognisable. They were the perfect choice for today’s couple, Gina & John, whose wedding is full of classic style and contemporary details!

Gina & John’s celebration was largely inspired by their Cambridgeshire farm venue, picking a fresh colour palette of white and little pops of green that ripple throughout the details of their day.  If you’re yet to be convinced that emerald (tipped to be this year’s hottest colour) is a good wedding choice, I’m pretty sure this will change your mind! Emerald green ties and bridesmaids dresses, pops of green foliage in the bouquets and on the reception tables with green apples, crisp white roses and hydrangea, the overall look is a beautiful combination of elegant and contemporary.  They didn’t let a little thing like rain spoil their day, with green golf umbrella’s sheltering them and their guests from intermittent downpours in style.  Despite the wind, Gina rocked her long veil, creating some of my favourite shots from their day.  I love how a few unexpected gusts of wind playing havoc with a veil can help even the most nervous of brides relax, laugh and smile and prepare to walk down the aisle!

Gina shares their story ~

John and I grew up in the same home town of Bulawayo, in Zimbabwe. We went to the same university in South Africa some years later, moved in the same circles over this time, knew the same people and yet never met. There are a couple of photographs from our university years where we’re in the same group shot and yet didn’t know each other. It was only some 4 years later that we met at a mutual friend’s birthday party on the very first night I went out in London. We got on like a house on fire from that moment. Truly meant to be! John proposed to me on a weekend break to Prague. He brought me coffee in bed, got down on one knee and, much to my surprise, asked to marry me. Being the traditionalist he is, he’d already asked both my father and mother for their blessing :)

I had never imagined I would chose a strapless dress and yet the minute I put on the Maggie Sottero Geneva, I knew it was THE one. I really did have that moment – angels singing in the backtrack to my mind and light shining down when I wore it!! :) The modified A-cut was so incredibly flattering, and I couldn’t believe how comfortable and secure it felt to wear. I wanted the intricacies of the dress – corded lace overlay with crystals, pearl and beaded detail and rather unusual satin mocha band under the bust line – to really stand out in their full romantic glory, so opted to wear crystal earrings and hair slide only. Any additional jewellery would have detracted from the dress. John was eager to wear tails and an ivory waistcoat for a classic, bridal look but chose ties instead of cravats for himself and the groomsen to give their outfits a smart, modern twist.

We were keen for the bridesmaid’s dresses to be simple, classic and fitting for the farm venue. I was also conscious that it would be nice if I could choose dresses they’d be able to wear and enjoy again after the wedding. I also wanted them to chose their own shoes to ensure they were comfortable during the day.

We wanted to have a very relaxed, yet romantic and classic, English summer wedding look and feel. The green, cream and white colours were fresh and natural, but also quite bold against the natural browns of the wood barn and outdoor farm settings. Quite by chance, on the date of our wedding it was an actual Blue Moon – a very magical and romantic touch that kept as a theme for the day – ‘Once in a Blue Moon…’ on the stationery etc.

What was your first dance and how did you chose the song?

Leo Sayer’s “You Make me Feel Like Dancing”. We knew the day would be an emotional experience for us (in a good way!) so we wanted something upbeat and happy that would get the vibe going. We have so many ‘our’ songs that would have been suitable, so in a way the best thing we could do was to choose quite randomly. It was just a song we particularly liked to play out loud and belt out the lyrics together on road trips, and it just stuck in our minds. The fact that we could learn a fun cha-cha to dance to the track was an added bonus!

Do you have any advice for couples currently planning their wedding?

Try to do as much as possible beforehand and in good time; a wedding doesn’t last just a day any more, it invariably entails family get-togethers, dinners with friends, catching up with those who have travelled from far to see you and general festivities that can last up to a couple of weeks before (and after!) the big day. It’s great if you can have most/all of the planning done so you can enjoy every moment of those weeks with those you love, rather than worry about details on the day.

Yep, I definitely have the best job in the world.
