real wedding: classic navy with a military twist {molly & stuart}

Morning lovelies!

Oh my, if there was ever an argument about children at weddings, this one would absolutely settle it!  Molly & Stuart’s classic navy wedding with a military twist features the most adorable flower girls, attending to Molly at all times, and looking at her as if she really was a real-life Princess for the day!  The story of Molly and Stuart’s day was captured by Lancashire-based wedding photographer Sam Clayton, her soft, relaxed style only adding to the romance of these beautiful images.

Molly and Stuart wanted a simple celebration, bringing in references to Stuart’s career in the Navy and holding their reception at a stunning modern riverside venue.  This beautiful couple chose an inspired and wonderfully heart felt theme for their wedding day, a motif of two Albatross painted by Molly’s father, featured on their invitations, programmes, menu’s and even inspired the table names at their reception.  Read more from Molly below to see how this was such a perfect personal detail ~

We met in 2003 through a mutual friend, as far as we know it wasn’t a set up, just a happy coincidence!  I already had plans to go to Australia to live and work for a year a few months after we had met.  Stuart persuaded his employer to let him take 3 months off to join me and we travelled Australia together.  We had the most amazing time and I think we both knew then we would be together forever but it took until New Year’s day 2010 for the timing to be right for Stuart’s proposal.  He asked me to marry him while on a walk on Exmoor in beautiful winter sunshine.

We married in Bristol, where we both now live, at a stunning church, near the water.  Bristol is a city we have got to know together, rather than being where either of us were brought up, which felt special for us both.

We had no set theme or colour scheme, just simple and classic.  We wanted to be with family and friends to celebrate our love and commitment to each other.  As Stuart is in the Navy there was an inevitable military vibe.   My lace bolero was made from lace that was handed down from my great grandmother and was about 150 years old, so my look was a little bit vintage which tied in well

My dad painted the picture of the two albatross (beautiful sea birds that mate for life) that appeared on the invitations and the order of service, and my brother (a graphic designer) made all the stationery.  Stuart is a naval helicopter pilot (so a bit like a sea bird!) and had recently returned from a deployment in the South Atlantic where he had seen many albatross and been enchanted by them.

what was your first dance, and how did you choose the song?

Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love”

do you have any advice for future brides?

Don’t get too bogged down with the details.  It’s not worth stressing out about table favours etc (most guests end up leaving them behind anyway!)

After a decade-long career in corporate interior design, I took a giant leap of faith, left the security of an office job, and founded B.LOVED in 2011 as a platform for romantic and beautiful wedding inspiration. Thanks to a whole lot of creativity, hard work and passion, my gamble paid off and B.LOVED became one of the leading wedding blogs in the UK.

You’ll also find me working as an Editorial Stylist, where I design and curate beautiful photoshoots for wedding and lifestyle brands, as well as contributing as a founding member of bridal inspiration hub Aisle Society, and running wedding industry community the B.LOVED Hive from our super pretty base in London. Yep, I definitely have the best job in the world.
