WEDDINGS

real wedding: sophisticated fashionista {andrea & jean-phillipe}

If December is the time of year for celebration, champagne and glamour then today’s stunning wedding is just the perfect inspiration!  Married on an exclusive wine farm in Portugal, stylish bride & groom Andrea and Jean-Phillipe’s day oozes sophisticated style and contemporary fashion.  I am head over heels for Andrea’s high-fashion wedding dress, designed by the amazing Alexander McQueen.  Teamed with Yves Saint Laurent heels and Lavin accessories this is one truly fashionista wedding, that I totally love!  Their bridal party also brings their fashion game to the party, sporting uber-trendy ballerina buns with their Marchesa dresses, and groomsmen looking super slick in their suits!

Jean-Philippe and I met nearly 5 years ago at a bar in London. We were both out with our respective friends having a great time when we bumped into each other while getting drinks at the bar. We instantly hit it off and the chemistry was so evident. After 3 wonderful hours getting to know each other, we exchanged numbers and went for our first official date the next day! He proposed at the Dead Sea in Jordan. He did it on the balcony of our suite overlooking the sea. It was so romantic and the ring took my breath away.

We chose to get married in Portugal as Jean-Philippe’s parents are Portuguese. We fell in love with the Aquapura Hotel deep in the Douro wine valley. The theme for our wedding was inspired by the valley and we used the colour purple, to symbolise the wine, in different areas and created special grape motifs for our wedding favours.

My dress was by Alexander McQueen, one of my favourite UK design houses. The wedding dress was so simple yet so interesting. It was ‘princessy’ yet edgy and slightly gothic. It was everything I dreamt it would be! My groom wore a wonderful Dior Tuxedo. The shade of grey was spot on and quite an unexpected choice! We were very lucky to find very similar tuxedos for the groomsmen. The differentiation between groom and groomsmen was enhanced by using different coloured bow ties. White for the groom and black for the groomsmen.

The bridesmaids wore Notte by Marchesa. I wanted them to also look pretty but fashion forward, which is why we pinned their hair up into really high editorial buns!

What was your first dance and how did you choose the song?

Our first dance was hilarious. I don’t really like first dances as I think they are really awkward and forced. Soooo, we decided to do something completely different! A bunch of my girlfriends and I danced a specially choreographed dance to ‘single ladies’ by Beyonce. It was hilarious and Jean-Philippe joined in the end. The next song was up beat and as so many people were already on the dance floor!

Do you have any advice for couples currently planning their wedding?

Make sure you have fun while you are doing it. It can be quite stressful but it’s always important to take a step back and remember the most important thing, that you are marrying the love of your life and that is all that matters. No matter what happens on the day, you will be married in the end so it will definitely be a success!

After a decade-long career in corporate interior design, I took a giant leap of faith, left the security of an office job, and founded B.LOVED in 2011 as a platform for romantic and beautiful wedding inspiration. Thanks to a whole lot of creativity, hard work and passion, my gamble paid off and B.LOVED became one of the leading wedding blogs in the UK.

You’ll also find me working as an Editorial Stylist, where I design and curate beautiful photoshoots for wedding and lifestyle brands, as well as contributing as a founding member of bridal inspiration hub Aisle Society, and running wedding industry community the B.LOVED Hive from our super pretty base in London. Yep, I definitely have the best job in the world.
