Ohmigosh today’s wedding is just SO beautiful! I’m really loving the fresh & light interpretation of vintage, farmyard details and pretty pastel-hued florals of Anri & Mauritz wedding.  They married on Anri’s family farm, a beautiful spot surrounded by the stunning African landscapes of the Free State.  Among their guests were geese, dogs, cats and horses, they said their hand-written vows under the shade of their very own ‘troubos’ (wedding tree).  Anri’s elegant Maggie Sottero dress was the perfect choice, covered in lace and adding a pretty vintage touch to her look, and her amazing three-metre veil creating a real wow-factor.

Their day was captured so beautifully by Louise Vorster.

Anri tells their story~

We met throught mutual friends, we were instantly attracted and became best friends before eventually starting a beautiful relationship, and never looked back since!  One peaceful Sunday we decided to drive around the Vredefort Koepel, a World Heritage Site not far from Johannesburg.  We stopped for a little picnic beside the Vaal river, and the next moment Mauritz was proposing out of the blue! He wanted it to be a surprise and ‘in the moment’ experience. It certainly was! He surprised me with the prettiest vintage-style diamond ring, he had designed just for me. It was just perfect!

I wanted a dress with lots of lace! On the first day of wedding dress shopping I found the perfect one, and I just knew! I had my veil custom made – it was 3 metres long! Each bridesmaid picked her own dress in a soft vintage colour, and it looked beautiful together with their little cowboy boots!  My sister and I made the boutonnières for the groomsmen.

We wanted a personal, fun, farm wedding on our family farm.  We wanted to keep the natural, vintage feeling the farm already had and just pretty it up! Almost everything was DIY and farm-inspired.  We didn’t really have a colour palette, we just went for soft vintage colours.  I spent a lot of time of wedding blogs getting inspiration, and the pictures helped me show everyone exactly what my ideas and feelings were.  Friends and family helped with everything, and a lot of my flowers were picked on the farm.  We got married under a tree we nicknamed our ‘troubos’ (wedding tree).  We kept it as natural as possible with a few white bird cages hanging as decoration. The geese, dogs, cats and horses roamed free among the guests and it created a great atmosphere!

My favourite DIY projects were the old story books we personalised for the ceremony, and our family tree! The best part about a DIY wedding is getting everything custom made exactly how you want it, and it being so personal. Mauritz and my family had a great time working together, and got a lot closer! Our awesome photographer, Louise Vorster, was also a great inspiration and captured out greatest memories beautifully!

My favourite part of the day was the ceremony.  The look on Mauritz’s face when I walked down the aisle, our own written vows, and the perfect weather – it was all just amazing! All the animals seemed to know something special was happening and gathered around the ‘troubos’. It was super special for us.  You could feel God’s presence, especially when we ended the ceremony with Amazing Grace. Oh, and the fabulous food!

What was your first dance, and how did you choose the song?

“Tangled Up In You” by Staind.  It has always just been our song and holds a lot of meaning for us.

Do you have any advice for couples currently planning their wedding?

Do what you want and pick what you like, don’t try to please anybody. There are no rules! It is THE best day of your life. Ours was far better than we had ever imaged it could be!

After a decade-long career in corporate interior design, I took a giant leap of faith, left the security of an office job, and founded B.LOVED in 2011 as a platform for romantic and beautiful wedding inspiration. Thanks to a whole lot of creativity, hard work and passion, my gamble paid off and B.LOVED became one of the leading wedding blogs in the UK.

You’ll also find me working as an Editorial Stylist, where I design and curate beautiful photoshoots for wedding and lifestyle brands, as well as contributing as a founding member of bridal inspiration hub Aisle Society, and running wedding industry community the B.LOVED Hive from our super pretty base in London. Yep, I definitely have the best job in the world.
