Regina & Mikkel’s initimate Portuguese wedding

When a beautiful intimate wedding like this one lands in my inbox I just can’t say no!  After all, this little blog started as an homage to small and intimate weddings and I’m not one to forget my roots.   This week’s real wedding comes from Luis and Kerry at Piteira Photography, a South African/Portuguese duo whose love of photography, beautiful light and romance sees them travel between their home countries to shoot the most beautiful of weddings.  I’ve been following their work for  long time, so am delighted to share their photos of Regina & Mikkel’s wedding today.  With an American bride and Danish groom, and a ceremony overlooking the beautiful Portuguese coastline, this wedding is International in every sense!  Their wedding was inspired by the traditional yellow & blue tiles found all over Portugal, starting with the colour palette and finishing with the tiniest details, from the groom’s cufflink’s to the favours.

In the very early stages of getting to know each other, we were thrilled to find out that we both shared the love of travel. Our connection was made even more special when we realised that we both loved Portugal. Regina’s first trip there was for New Year’s Eve in 2001 and she traveled over 1200 kilometres during that initial two week vacation, sharing the roads with adventurous Portuguese drivers, stopping at every cultural and natural sight along the coast, all the while eating fresh fish and “pasteis de nata” at every opportunity. This amazing experience inspired her to begin learning the language. She is happy to now “fala português”. Regina has returned to Portugal at least ten times since that first journey and the love affair with the country continues to this day.

Mikkel set foot in Portugal the first time in 2001 when he attended a seminar in Lisbon. When Portugal hosted the European Football Championship in 2004, there was Mikkel in the middle of the excitement enjoying three games in the north of the country. He has been to Portugal eight times. One aspect he enjoys most about Portugal is how he towers over most of the population. He also loves how Portuguese rhymes with ‘pork and cheese’!

Our first trip together in 2010 to Lisbon and the Algarve region was a delight. We both could not get enough of this country filled with its mild-mannered and easy-going people, historical and stunning sights, breathless ocean views, ideal weather, exceptional food and wine and stirring music. Upon considering a location for our destination wedding we wanted it to be in a place near the ocean, as we both have a special relationship to the sea. We also wanted the wedding to be in a warmer place in November, so that it could be a good midpoint for all of our guests travelling from afar. We quickly agreed upon Portugal and were very fortunate to find the ideal location by the sea.

Our venue was the first one we encountered when we began our tireless search for a seaside wedding location near our beloved Lisbon. After visiting a number of other charming venues, we chose Villa São Paulo for its enchanting location, flair and style. The Villa is positioned on a cliff facing the Atlantic Ocean, only fifty steps away from one of Portugal’s most famous beaches and offers breathtaking views from its lovely private property.

Louise

After a decade-long career in corporate interior design, I took a giant leap of faith, left the security of an office job, and founded B.LOVED in 2011 as a platform for romantic and beautiful wedding inspiration. Thanks to a whole lot of creativity, hard work and passion, my gamble paid off and B.LOVED became one of the leading wedding blogs in the UK.

You’ll also find me working as an Editorial Stylist, where I design and curate beautiful photoshoots for wedding and lifestyle brands, as well as contributing as a founding member of bridal inspiration hub Aisle Society, and running wedding industry community the B.LOVED Hive from our super pretty base in London. Yep, I definitely have the best job in the world.
