Ami Price, Editor of the very beautiful Elizabeth Anne Designs and CEO of Aisle Society is not only the hardest working, most talented lady I have ever had the pleasure to meet in person, but she is also friendly, genuine and so generous in sharing her knowledge, talents and oh-so-precious time. Today we’re going behind the scenes with this female entrepreneur to uncover a day in the life of a wedding blogger!
Hi Ami! Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? I’m Aisle Society’s Chief Executive Officer and I absolutely adore working with some of my favorite women in the world. The role brings together my background in finance, accounting and corporate structuring with my love of beautiful things!
I’m also a wife and furmommy to Charlie, and the Founder and Executive Editor of Elizabeth Anne Designs.
Where do you live? Chicago, IL, USA
What’s your background, how did you get into what you do now? I have 15+ years of experience in financial services, specifically hedge funds, as well as an MBA. I began blogging in 2007 as a creative outlet, and as our industry has grown and flourished, I have been fortunate enough to team with a group of amazingly talented women worldwide to create Aisle Society.
Describe your style? I’m very relaxed and comfy! I love knit dresses (especially from LOFT) and flip flops or flats.
Take us through a typical day at EAD…
I am decidedly not a morning person! I normally awake a bit before 10am and head almost directly to the computer. If I am lucky, my husband has brought me Starbucks! I normally wear something comfortable to work, such as yoga pants or workout wear.
I rarely eat breakfast, preferring instead to drink a latte or orange juice sitting at my desk.
My desk is a disaster! My husband is a bit of a neat freak, so the rest of the house is quite tidy, but my desk is solely “my” space and it’s a wreck. I work best in what I love to call “organized chaos”! I typically have several meetings and phone calls throughout the day, so I structure my day around them.
I plan my basic projects using an amazing project management system called Teamwork, and for little tasks, take them as they come. I tend to flit from task to task!
I work through lunch, but do try to take time to walk Charlie with my husband. A typical lunch is soup, a lunch burrito, or a plate of yummy avocado and tomato.
Afternoon is when I’m at my best! It also tends to be the time of the day with the most meetings. Around 3pm, I take a break if possible to walk the pup and enjoy some fresh air!
I take a break from work around dinnertime and enjoy a bit of relaxation (usually in front of the tv!) I also enjoy a leisurely walk with Charlie before settling down to work for the evening.
The evening time is set aside for work on Elizabeth Anne Designs! I answer emails and submissions and craft my blog post for the following day.
How do you stay inspired & motivated? I love to feel busy and accomplished, so I’m at my best when I’m being productive! I try to keep motivated by tackling interesting projects in my path, and blocking out the less-fun tasks into 20-30 minute increments before “rewarding” myself with a fun project
What’s your biggest business challenge? I’m constantly challenging myself to be a better communicator.
What are your goals for the next 12 months? My #1 goal is to gain consistency in my daily routine and keep Aisle Society running like a well-oiled machine!
