FAKE IT TO MAKE IT
If you, like me, have been less than fortunate in the hair department, you’ll sympathise with my never-ending quest to make my hair look quite as lush, full and lovely as I’d like. I’ve worn my hair in a bob – of varying lengths – since pretty much forever as it’s the only way to give my hair some body and life! While I’m currently experimenting with growing my hair into a longer bob, I’ll never be blessed with long, flowing locks. On a recent shoot I was discussing this conundrum with fellow fine-haired beauty (and talented hair & makeup artist) Tori Harris, who confessed her love of clip-in extensions so I asked her to let us in on her secret! Here’s her step-by-step easy ponytail with clip in extensions. You’ve got to fake it to make it….
Over to you Tori –
I am a self-confessed extension junkie! I wear clip in extensions almost every day – often wearing my hair down. However some days you just want to chuck your hair up into a ponytail, and when you’re wearing clip in extensions this can sometimes be quite a challenge and a bit uncomfortable. The method I am sharing with you today is far quicker and doesn’t pull on your hair meaning you can rock the high pony comfortably all day!
YOU WILL NEED:
Clip in extensions (I put in a half head of hair)
Brush
Pin Tail Comb
Sectioning clips
Dry Shampoo or Thickening Spray (I used L’Oreal Professional Volumetry SOS Volume Spray)
Smoothing Serum (I used Bed Head After Party)
Hair Spray (I used Schwarzkopf Silhouette)
Two snag bands and a couple of bobby pins
METHOD:
Start by sectioning your hair into three sections – from the crown to each ear being your top section and then divide the rest of the hair in half tying the higher of these two sections into a ponytail with one of the snag bands.
Clip the extensions around the ponytail in a circular motion.
Let the top section down and spray in your thickening spray.
Back comb the roots of your hair
Smooth your hair back into a ponytail and secure with the second snag band
Take a small section of hair from the underneath and wrap around the snag band – secure with a couple of bobby pins.
Use a small amount of smoothing serum through the ends of the hair for a sleek finish.
And Voila! Super quick and easy ponytail with clip in extensions that looks full and longer but still really natural!
