MALTA & GOZO TRAVEL INSPIRATION
If you’re searching for some out of season sunshine without the long-haul flight, Malta is the perfect destination with flight times of under 4 hours from London. This tiny archipelago of seven islands off the coast of Scicily has been inhabited for almost 7000 years, with it’s position in the Mediterranean making it an ideal naval base for various powers throughout the ages. This history means Malta boasts a rich cultral heritage, with both European and Arab influences. Today, Malta offers culture, beautiful beaches and cuisine just waiting to be discovered. Photographer Anneli Marinovich shares her story and images from a recent trip.
Destination: Malta & Gozo
Where did you stay? We stayed at the Radisson Blu Resort, Golden Sands in Malta.
What made you pick the destination? We stayed here as it’s a great resort with it’s own private beach club. It’s was also conveniently located for the destination wedding I shot in Malta during our stay.
What is there to do? The medieval city of Mdina is a must see with its beautiful, narrow sandstone streets and little cafes where you can get an ice cold beer and sample some local dishes. This was our second visit to Malta and it didn’t disappoint. I was booked to shoot a wedding out there but we stayed a few days before and after the wedding so it turned into a working holiday! If you’ve never been to Malta, make sure you hop on the ferry to Gozo – Malta’s more rural sister island. The Xlendi saltpans near Xlendi Bay at sunset are breath-taking – I did a couple shoot here and it was such a gorgeous setting and the perfect spot to watch the sunset. Comino is also only a short boat trip away from Malta, and the azure blue lagoons are definitely worth photographing and swimming in, followed by a spot of tanning and a few cocktails!
What would be your top packing tips? Take a few different bikinis – some of the best beaches in the world are in Malta! Take plenty of sunscreen too, we were there in middle September this year and it was still nearly 37 degrees.
Would you visit again? Definitely
