Sports Luxe Edit
I’m a huge fab of the sports luxe trend although, admittedly, I adopted it more by accident than design. I can’t stand to feel uncomfortable in my clothes so I’m happy this trend is still evolving and even more happy it’s become acceptable in the workplace! It’s not difficult to see why athleisure attire is a hit with those at the top of the fashion tree & street style influencers: it’s comfortable, practical and feels a little bit rebellious! (Or maybe that’s just me…)
When Victoria Beckham ditched her trademark skyscraper heels for trainers during her New York Fashion Week show it gave us all permission to follow in her footsteps. But how do mere mortals get away with the sports luxe trend without looking like we’re just quickly popping to the shops on a Sunday morning and thrown on whatever was handy?
For me, it all comes down to mixing and matching key pieces within your existing wardrobe as you don’t want to look like you’re on the way to the gym after that important work meeting. A simple logo tee worn under a smart blazer or adding some stripes are easy ways to introduce this trend without it feeling too overwhelming. (This ASOS jumpsuit is gorgeous and looks so comfortable I may have to invest…) Why not try a sweatshirt with tailored trousers and a leather jacket? Or luxe sweatpants with a tailored shirt and box fresh white trainers for the day, then slip into a gorgeous pair of heels for the evening?
If you love the idea but baulk at wearing a sweatshirt or trainers to work, why not try mixing it up with different fabrics? A velvet sweatshirt, satin trainers or a suede bomber jacket will add glamour while still being super comfortable and totally on trend.
Here are some fabulous pieces available now to inspire you. Which is your favourite?
