STUDIO TOUR: BLOVED
I’m excited (and a little nervous!) to share a sneaky peek into BLOVED HQ with you all this morning! A few months ago I was lucky to persuade friend and insanely talented fine art photographer Ashlee from Taylor Barnes Photography to spend the day with me and capture some very pretty pictures of my working life at home. Shot on film, they are absolutely dreamy (she even made me look good – with a little hair & makeup magic from Tori Harris) and I’m completely thrilled with the results!
I thought it would be fun to answer my own interview questions below, so you can all find out a little bit more about what makes the girl behind BLOVED tick…
Tell us a little about your business? BLOVED is a daily lifestyle blog dedicated to all things luxe & lovely. Our readers are successful and stylish ladies who love to be inspired by the latest trends in everything from fashion and interiors to weddings & parties! We have a team of expert writers who share advice and inspiration each month, and a growing team of contributors who create the prettiest exclusive content for us, so our readers are always ahead of the curve when it comes to the latest ideas!
How did you get started in the industry? I started my career as an interior designer, but have always had a love of pretty things! When I discovered other blogs sharing beautiful inspiration ideas for weddings and beyond, I found the perfect outlet for my creativity whilst I was still working in the corporate world. After three years I made the jump to being full-time self-employed and I haven’t looked back!
What do you think has made your business successful? Without a doubt the incredible support I’ve received from the wedding industry and our loyal readers. This is an industry crammed with successful, strong and stylish female entrepreneurs, and they have supported BLOVED from day one. My team of writers and contributors carry this ethos into every feature we write and shoot we create; making sure our content isn’t just pretty, but aspirational and achievable too!
Where do you work? My office overlooks the garden, and has beautiful light and lots of space, so I can store all the props I’ve collected over the years, as well as host my mentorees and the odd styled shoot! It’’s decorated fairly simply with white walls and furniture and shelves to display images from my latest styled shoots, inspirational quotes and a few awards, which I’m super proud of.
I’m guilty of working from the sofa too – especially in winter, when I love to snuggle up on the sofa with a cosy blanket and a big mug of tea while writing our latest posts.
What’s the biggest mistake people make whenstarting their own business, and what advice would you give them? I openly admit I’ve made so many mistakes, but I’m a firm believer that you can only learn from the mistakes you make! I was very guilty of saying ‘yes’ to every opportunity which came my way in the beginning, which was great for building BLOVED but took it’s toll on my health and– in the end I realised it’s just not worth it. Now I have a much healthier balance!
Running your own business from home can be quite isolating, but it’s really important to get out there and meet new people. You’d be surprised how many of them quickly become close friends as well as industry colleagues, and this is one of my biggest blessings. I’m not the most outgoing of people, so I found setting up coffee dates with a few people I admired in the beginning helped me to make a few friends –- and made it much less daunting to attend bigger events when there were a few friendly faces in the crowd!
How would you describe your style? My style is contemporary, feminine, pretty and constantly changing! Let’s just say I’m not a fan of the capsule wardrobe……..! I favour cool, pastel colours both in my outfits and at home, but can’t resist a pop of something brighter every now and again.
BLOVED is a real extension of my personality –- anything you see here, you see because I love it! So really if you want to know what my style is just keep reading!
What trend predictions do you have for 2016? I think the fine art trend is going to continue way into next year and beyond – there’s something so classic and beautiful about this style that I can’t see it going anywhere soon.
I’m definitely seeing a cleaner, simplified style in weddings and interiors –- even the 70’s boho vibe has been pared back for 2015 and I’d love to see some more of this venture into wedding style next year.
What challenges have you set yourself for the next 12 months? I’m really excited to be involved in a huge international project with some of my favourite wedding bloggers which will be launching this Autumn – it’s top secret so I can’t say any more right now but lets’ just say it’s going to be massive!
Here at BLOVED we’re focussing on quality content, and will be introducing some new packages for our luxe & lovely BLOVED Edit members later this year, so keep an eye out for some lovely new brands and exclusive features!
I’m also planning some new projects for Louise Beukes Styling, including a workshop or two coming soon. I’m really excited about these so keep an eye out for details!
I wish every day was this glamourous at BLOVED HQ…!
