Tips on Visiting Oia in Santorini
Santorini is certainly on the wanderlust list for many popular bloggers and influencers on instagram – and no wonder, the place looks amazing! It’s said to have some of the most beautiful sunsets, the signature whitewashed buildings and blue domes are a must see, and there are some amazing boutique hotels for luxury stays! Maxeen Kim Photography shares with us her trip to Oia in Santorini, with her stunning travel photos and also tips if you’re planning to visit.
“In August this year I made my way to Santorini. After living in Greece for a year and a half, I wanted to visit one of it’s most iconic islands. I opted to stay in Perissa, a relaxed area with a ‘hippy’ feel which is on the other side of the island to Oia and Fira – where most tourists visit. It’s a great option if you have kids as it is flatter than the other villages so your little ones won’t risk falling down any stairs and it’s black sand beaches are the perfect place to put your feet up and catch a tan. However, you can’t visit Santorini without seeing the blue domes of Oia.
The best advice I could possibly give on visiting Oia is: Get Up Early! It’s the most beautiful village and if you want it’s streets to yourself the key is to wake up with the birds. It’s beautiful little buildings clinging to the cliff side, coupled with its amazing views are so worth getting up for. I arrived at 6am and had 2 hours to explore its winding cobbled streets, photograph it’s pretty blue doors and try to get one of its many cats to make friends with me before everyone else arrived.
By the time the village had awoke and was buzzing with people, I was settling into a comfy seat on the top floor of a cafe. If there is an option to go upstairs – take it! I got to enjoy a freddo cappuccino and a fresh pastry, bask in the sunshine and watch the world go by – camera full of images! – and it was only 8.30am. It really is the most beautiful way to start your day on the island.”
