TRAVEL INSPIRATION: KEFALONIA
It’s been a little while since we featured some beautiful travel inspiration, but with the winter weather setting in on our little island it’s definitely time to start dreaming about some hot and sunny summer destinations! Today we’re heading of to beautiful Greece with our very own Maxeen, who is moving there herself early next year! Over the next few months we’ll be seeing more of her new home on Ithica, but today we’re heading next door to the larger island of Kefalonia for a peek at the pretty village of Fiscardo.
Destination: Fiscardo, Kefalonia Greece
Travel time: Direct flight from London, approximately 3 hours
Time of year: July
On a recent trip to visit friends on the pretty Greek island of Ithaca (more on this soon!), I decided to visit the larger island of Kefalonia next door by taking a boat trip to the coastal village of Fiscardo for lunch.
WHAT TO DO
Fiscardo is a picturesque village on the coast and is fantastic for lunch. However, if you have a car there are many sights on Kefalonia worth visiting. A trip to the Mellisani Lake is on the top of my list of things to see next time.
WHAT TO EAT
The Greeks are fantastic hosts and I absolutely love Greek food; my favourite started is now Saganaki (fried halloumi cheese) and I have developed quite a soft spot Moussaka.
HOW TO GET AROUND
Fiscardo is small so you can walk around the village easily, but if you wanted to see more of Kefalonia, you will definitely need to hire a car.
WHAT TO PACK
Greece is hot during the summer time and the islands are pretty relaxed. So take bikini’s and beach clothes for the daytime and dresses and pretty sandals for evenings out; anything that’s light and brightly coloured (I always think colourful clothes help get you into the holiday mood).
VISIT AGAIN?
Yes! Kefalonia is the biggest of the Ionian Islands and it’s beautiful. I definitely want to go back and see more of it.
