Visiting Bellagio + Lake Como, Italy
Let us whisk you away to beautiful Italy today! Catherine and Andy, the duo behind White Stag Wedding Photography share with us their trip to Bellagio and Lake Como and it is so beautiful! The pretty winding streets and elegant architecture full of historical character, and the serene waterside setting with a backdrop of mountains! We’re in love! Here’s Catherine to tell us more about their trip and what there is to see and do;
“Bellagio, a quaint historic town right on the edge of Lake Como, Italy was the perfect place for us to get away and have some downtime before a busy wedding season. We travelled with two of our friends who got engaged a couple of months after we did, which seemed like another good excuse for a treat! Bellagio is famous for its cobbled streets and pastel coloured houses – there were certainly beautiful details around every corner.
We wanted to visit a few of the stunning villas along the shore of Lake Como, so we decided to rent a car. This also made it easier to get from and to the airport. We flew into Milan and in true Italian style rented a little Fiat500. We then stayed in a little apartment in the heart of Bellagio – we love finding little independent hotels and B&B’s when we travel, as we prefer to support small businesses.
Bellagio has everything you need in terms of little shops, restaurants and bars, but it was also nice to get out and about to see the surrounding area. One of the highlights was Villa del Balbianello – a stunning villa which can also be hired for weddings! It has fantastic views of Lake Como and the gardens are simply stunning! Villa Carlotta and Villa Melzi are just a couple more of the countless villas to see and visit during your stay at Lake Como.
For a slightly different view of the lake and to really appreciate the scenery, we definitely recommend hiring a boat – there are several companies that let you hire out boats, we organised our boat hire through Whatsapp! Super easy. Some Villas don’t even have access from the road so it’s certainly the best way to see them all. It’s certainly a star-studded shoreline, with the likes of George Clooney and Richard Branson owning properties there.
Bellagio is the perfect base to explore Lake Como, and if you’re after a short break with great Italian food, beautiful scenery and romantic villas and villages, this is the place for you!”
