GIN & ELDERFLOWER
The eagle-eyed among you may have spotted that I’m quite a fan of gin (although don’t taint it with tonic, please!) So with World Gin Day approaching this Saturday (11th June) I felt it was only right to provide you with a little gin-inspired encouragement of your own. Whether you’re a fan of the big brands, or partial to something a little more unique (I’m currently working my way through a bottle of Willams Chase Elegant Gin) this weekend is the perfect excuse to host a gin-inspired summer garden party!
Say gin, and aromatic, botanical flavours immediately spring to mind, which translates perfectly into a fresh palette of greens and white. Accented with delicate florals, such as elderflower and a hint of citrus and suddendly everything we love about summer comes together in one heady package.
Besides the gin cocktails (what else?!) I’ll be serving up sweet and creamy elderflower cheesecake and a light and airy bundt cake served with strawberries and freshly whipped cream. Think crisp white linens floating in the gentle breeze, and an array of white early-summer flowers picked fresh from the garden and displayed in an array of glass bottles and vessels. You could highlight key areas with a cascading foliage display – an entrance way or patio perhaps – and add fun to a seating corner with giant balloons floating from delicate foliage garlands.
For those with space, and time hang simple white voiles to create shady areas, and scatter your garden with pillar candles to create a beautiful, warm ambience as the sun sets.
