FIVE FAVOURITE FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY IDEAS
I hope you’re having a great summer – it’s flying by a little too quickly for my liking! Today’s topic? Party themes! Between planning my two daughters birthday parties, and designing new party stationery collections for my third baby – my stationery business, Hip Hip Hooray.com, I come across so much gorgeous inspiration online and regularly find myself thinking about themes… Of course, you don’t have to have a theme to put on a great party, but it can be fun to do something different each year. If like me, you enjoy making decorations and preparing your own party goodies – then it’s nice to have a concept to carry through all the elements, from cake and favours to invitations and games.
Today I’m sharing my favourite 5 first birthday ideas which would be perfect for a first birthday party. You can also adapt the themes for a baby shower, Christening, Baptism or other celebration:
1. WILD AT HEART
- There’s something adorable about the idea of a safari theme for a baby’s first birthday. Think cute animal figurines (even cuter in party hats!), natural textures such as hessian and twine and some jungle inspired leafy decorations!

2. OVER THE RAINBOW
Bright pops of colour in a light airy space make for a great rainbow themed party…

3. LONDON CALLING
If you live in, or just love London and Great British heritage, how about a London themed party for your little one? A bold red, blue and white colour scheme and charming Royal Guards are just the ticket..

4. TWINKLE TWINKLE LITTLE STAR
- Inspired by the much loved and age-old nursery rhyme, I love a ‘twinkle twinkle little star’ theme for a first birthday party, where simple details and a little sparkle go a long way!

5. TEDDY BEAR’S PICNIC
If you’ll be celebrating during the summer and fancy an outdoor party, hosting a teddy bears picnic party is a great option. With DIY details that are easy to replicate, and the added the bonus that all the little ones can bring their favourite bear, what’s not to love?!
