WALK THE WALK

So here’s a little secret: babies don’t really need shoes. Certainly not when they’re lying in a crib, and not really when they start crawling, and actually even when they’re taking their first tottering little steps, they’re probably better off barefoot.

But come on. Those teeny tiny little miniature sneakers? Sometimes, sometimes, the adorably cute factor wins and you throw sense out the window and get the credit card out, so here are some of my absolute favourite baby’s first shoes:

CONVERSE FIRST STAR

JD Sports £22

  1. Clara was given a pair of these when she was born, and she still wears them. They are probably one of my favourite things to dress her in. SO cute with her little Baby B’Gosh dungarees. And with a nice soft sole, they protect her little feet without hindering her movement. BUY

BABY NIKES

Nike Store £13.99

  1. Miniature Baby Nikes. ‘Nough said. BUY

MR FOX

Inch Blue £19

  1. Soft-soled leather shoes are a must-have for babies. The next best thing to bare feet, they protect little toes when baby starts crawling, keep feet cosy and warm, and have grippy leather soles that are brilliant when baby starts walking. Another bonus: they’re super easy to get on and off (trust me, putting shoes on a baby is NOT easy). BUY

MARY JANES

Sarenza £24

  1. If you have a special occasion coming up, buying your little girl some pretty gold shoes is such a treat. These little mary janes are just so cute. BUY

CHEETAH MOCCASINS

  1. Amy and Ivor £43
  2. Amy and Ivor do absolutely fab handmade leather shoes for babes. These little Cheetah Moccasins are no exception. BUY

PRE-WALKERS

Startrite £27

  1. When your little one starts to walk, investing in a pair of “pre-walkers” is a good idea – these little shoes have soft, flexible rubber soles that make it easy for baby to go from crawling to small teetering steps. These lovely little tan boots from Startrite (an excellent name in supportive baby shoes) are an excellent choice. BUY

RED PATENT

Startrite £36

Once baby is walking properly, it’s time to move her on to “walkers.” These shoes have a harder, less flexible sole which will now help your little one take strong confident steps. And they may as well be patent red, no? BUY

BABY MOON BOOTS

Clarks £19

  1. These next two are just for fun really. I mean, seriously. Baby moon boots? Amazing! BUY
  2. BABY UGGS

  3. Amara £40
  4. And last but not least… Baby Uggs. Yup. You heard me. BUY
