Fleur’s Nursery Tour

Lovely Rebecca of Urban Flipflops and Glimmer + Threads, shares beautiful baby Fleur’s nursery with us and her delightful newborn family session by Julie Michaelsen Photography.  “I knew we were having a girl when we moved into our current flat in June. I didn’t have an exact theme in mind but I knew that I wanted to decorate the small space pink and pretty and simple enough that it could transition into something she would like when she was a toddler. The space is only 130sq feet so too much stuff makes it feel cluttered and I wanted to make sure to leave space to play in as she grew up. The room was aready painted grey so it was perfect to add pops of pink on top of it.

We had decided on the name Fleur before she was born and that is what gave me the idea to make the flower mobile. It was nice be able to create something for her room that hopefully she will like for years to come. It is looks very similar to something we actually had at our wedding and the velvet ribbons are from my wedding bouquet. The furniture in the room is mostly from IKEA and West Elm. Because it is such a small space, I chose to use a small IKEA dresser as the changing table and changed the knobs to the adorable gold bows I fell in love with from Land of Nod! Instead of buying a “changing station”, this works much better with a pretty changing pad and cover on top.

One of my favourite parts of the room is the fireplace and mantle. I love that so many flats in London have a fireplace! I decided to use the fireplace area to keep her books in and love to sit in the pink rocker with her in the afternoon and read to her. The prints above the mantle all have special meanings to them. There is a watercolour of peonies because those are my favourite flowers and her name means flower in French. The “Il Etait Une Fois” translates to Once Upon A Time and was created by a lovely graphic designer in Paris, I love that it looks modern but translates into the beginning of a Fleur’s fairytale. One of my favourites is a print a good friend of mine created for her with a Unicorn on it and the quote
“Be yourself. Unless you can be a unicorn, in that case, you should always be a unicorn!”- Alice In Wonderland. There is a watercolour of me when I was pregnant that a local London artist did, she also painted the pretty map of London. A photo of me and my husband during our maternity shoot and a silhouette of our dog “her brother” #siroliveruk with a bow tie on.

I’m really happy with how the nursery came out. I collected most of the items throughout my pregnancy when I was at home in the States visiting and in London. It was important to add touches that had a little story behind them. The painted wooden blocks was something we did at my baby shower and I will always remember that day!

I was so glad to be able to have Julie take images of our little family. We had originally planned on taking newborn photos but Fleur ended up arriving two weeks late. We ended up taking the images when she was three months on a quiet morning which was so nice and Julie made us all feel so comfortable and relaxed. I will certainly cherish these images forever!”
