My Lovely Baby Girl Nursery Tour

We were smitten with Joelle’s chic, modern maternity session earlier this week (see it here) and we’re thrilled to share with you her stylish nursery tour! Filled with cute details and using a palette of white, grey and blush / peach, with touches of copper and gold – Joelle has created a delightful modern space ahead of her Baby Girl’s arrival.

“I started planning my nursery corner back in January 2016. Unfortunately we have to move house in October 2016 as our landlord is knocking down our villa compound down to build apartments, so Instead of redecorating my office we decided to create a nursery corner in our room. We hadn’t done much with our bedroom so it was an easy space to work with.

I spent hours and hours waking around the malls looking at nursery furniture in your typical baby stores and I just wasn’t impressed, and I didn’t want to spend money on something we wouldn’t use in the future. Anyone who knows me will tell you I’m slightly obsessed with decor, flowers and home accessories. West Elm is possibly my favourite store in Dubai, and it’s huge so I pop in every time I’m in Dubai Mall, even the staff give me a smile and a wave to say ‘oh, she’s back again’. So sourcing items for my nursery corner was easy. I also looked online but with shipping costs to Dubai it still worked out cheaper to buy furniture here. I really do miss the little boutique shops in the UK.

I loved the mid century collection and if I didn’t have a budget to work around I probably would of bought so much more. The chest of draws is something we can use forever, as is the grey chair and side table. The drinks trolley was my favourite purchase but I’m equally obsessed with the side table. I wanted a stylish changing table and I thought it was the perfect solution as it had bars around the edge and a section for nappies and wipes, it wasn’t until we got it home that I realised it was a bit low for us to change Adeline on, so we bought a cheap changing table elsewhere and use our drinks trolley as a side table. Right now I have folded clothes and towels on it with cloths and wipes in baskets underneath. It’s actually very practical. Plus when we no longer need it as a side table for Adeline, I’ll use it for drinks and cocktails… one day!

I also bought the brass lamp, gold and white picture frames and wall hooks from West Elm. They were the perfect additions as they all featured a little touch of gold. We knew Adeline (our now 5.5 month old baby) was a girl so using gold was my way of making the nursery corner feminine but no over the top. My friend Lilliam who owns E walls printed off some gold dots for me and designed a large dark grey giraffe, which sits over her retro crib we brought from Just Kidding in Dubai. I love animals so we went for safari animal theme using soft toys and prints. After all it’s still our bedroom too so we didn’t want to over do it with baby decor and bright colourful baby toys.

Before Adeline was born I bought a few dresses and outfits that I just loved, so instead of putting them away in a cupboard I decided to leave them out on display. I still have outfits hanging around the room, even though she’s grown out of half of them.”
