#106: modern classic inspiration
Happy Bank Holiday my loves! What are you all doing with the extra day off? I’m going to be working on some admin and then maybe treating myself to a little picnic in the park in the late afternoon sun as a treat for a hard day’s work. Can you believe it’s May, already?! If May was a colour, for me it would be green, sweet and fresh, like newly cut grass and young uncurling leaves. So today’s inspiration is perfect for a May day wedding celebration, a classic combination of white and green with a few on trend details giving the whole scheme a modern edge.
White flowers are in season all year round, with spring and early summer giving you the best choice, but team with plenty of greenery to break up the white and give definition to your arrangements. As well as foliage, succulents are a great contemporary option. You might get lucky in late spring with some early white peonies, beautifully layered ranunculus, delicate anemones with their bold black centres, and pure white tulips. Later in the season hydrangea and a variety of garden roses add texture, volume and a wonderful perfume to your floral arrangements and bouquets for a looser, rustic style. Display in simple glass containers for a classic look, or wrap with white twine, ric-rac, ribbons and lace for a romantic touch. Accent throughout with touches of taupe and grey for sophisticated style, I adore these elegant invites with white text (speak to your stationer for ideas of how to achieve this, or DIY using white ink on a bespoke stamp!) which coordinate perfectly with calligraphed escort cards. Dress maids in gorgeous green dresses, in light tulle, for a floaty summery vibe, and incorporate elegant braided hairstyles to keep the look up to date.
