#111: Gatsby Glamour
Happy Monday b.lovelies!
With Gatsby fever sweeping the nation (or at least the wedding world!) I thought it was about time I shared some of my own Gatsby inspiration. It seems the general vintage trend may be slightly waning this year, in favour of more era-specific themes, and Baz Luhrmann’s blockbuster is certainly the perfect source of inspiration for an art-deco styled affair. So ask yourself… what would Daisy do?
Art-deco fashion is all about the flapper style, intricate beading and feminine silhouettes with short sharp bobs or finger waves (yay for short-haired brides!) accessorised with headbands and combs. Of course, lots of designers are inspired by this era, alongside the obvious Jenny Packham & Johanna Johnson, seek out Sabrina Motasem & Joanne Fleming. Cascading, waterfall-style bouquets were popular in the 1920’s, a style easily updated with a touch more foliage for a slightly rustic, contemporary look. For stationery, deco-style fonts and patterns are easily identified, with these geometric patterns working well on everything from your invite and menus to your wedding cake! While your groom might not be Leo (swoon!), he can look just as dapper, either in sophisticated black tie or a more relaxed and quirky suit style. A monochrome palette of black and ivory with a pop of red adds a rich, warm touch while gold adds glamour and antique sophistication.
