A Fairy-Tale Wedding in Portugal: Gabriela & Rodrigo
Love is a magical thing and no one is too old for a fairy-tale. Portugal based Brazilians, Gabriela and Rodrigo, had always dreamt of a romantic, elegant fairy-tale wedding and they executed on their dream in their own unique cosmopolitan style. About Events Portugal brought the couple’s vision to life, recommending The One Palácio da Anunciada, a newly opened 16th-century palace located at the heart of Lisbon.
Found in the lovely neighbourhood of Baixa and developed by the award-winning designer, Jaime Beriestain, The One Palácio da Anunciada represents heritage, luxury design and majestic style with its antique interiors, arched passageways, marble-inlay foyer, sculpted ceilings, and top-class service. Mariana Gama Photography captured a memorable photoshoot for the couple at sunset in the property’s well-groomed courtyard and by its rooftop pool.
Style & Colour Palette
The aim was to create something extraordinary and memorable for the bride and groom. A sophisticated, subtle style was thoughtfully chosen based on the couple’s taste, balancing classic fairy-tale with cosmopolitan simplicity.
White and blue were the primary colours used. White was chosen as a prominent colour element because it represents serenity and purity. Variants of blue were included to lend a bold yet playful touch. The overall style effortlessly merged together a sense of old-fashioned sophistication and modern majesty.
The idea of a fairy-tale wedding was built around the bride, Gabriela’s, dream to be a princess for a day and so the bride’s dress was one of the most important aspects of this wedding. Anah Hana, a local Portugese designer, fashioned a wonderful white bridal gown. With its elaborate tailing trail, fancy back bow and dainty off-shoulder style, the dress was indeed fit for a princess! The bride wore an exotic crown-like headpiece made of precious pearls with a refined updo. For the bridal look, Ana MakeUp and Hair created cherry red lips, dramatic eyelashes and ethereal make-up.
Floral Arrangement & Design
The ceremony set-up included a tastefully decorated stairway, with playful white flowers in tall blue vases, that lead to the altar. There was a classic white cake by Sucre & Cacao placed on a table, modestly accessorised with classic white roses, romantic midnight blue candles and celebratory champagne. The bride and groom pronounced their own vows in an intimate setting under an antique arch and About Events Portugal organized a live-broadcast of the symbolic ceremony to the couple’s family and friends in Brazil.
Matching the theme and colour palette, the bridal bouquet was made up of traditional white roses and scented freesias with bunches of green tied together by a vintage blue fabric.
Prettie Wedding & Events designed intricately appealing stationery in charming hues of blue – including a pale grey, soft powder and deep sea blue. Save the Date set a table for two using typical Portugese cutlery, luxury porcelain printed plates and exquisite textured glasses, staying true to the blue-white colour scheme.
- Opt for an abundance of white (in florals, candles, tableware) with a pop of colour to give a modern, cosmopolitan twist to a traditional, classic style.
- Use stationery to reinforce the theme including certain design elements. Create an exquisite stationery suite by paying attention to the details, like using shades of a particular colour which match the primary colour palette, using high quality luxury paper and playing with various textures and unique fonts.
