A Romantic Runaway Wedding in Italy

What could be more romantic and intimate than a romantic elopement in Italy! A wedding is about two people coming together and professing their love to one another; Hazel and John chose to celebrate their day in the beautiful city of Florence.

Hazel and John’s meeting was a stroke of luck, serendipity and something right out of a romantic comedy! The lovely couple locked eyes at Denver Airport until John casually approached Hazel at the airport lounge bar. After a few drinks and an interesting conversation, they parted ways, but stayed in touch on social media. After weeks of communicating by text, they agreed to meet for an “official” first date in Dallas and have been on their everlasting first date ever since.

John got down on one knee on the Fourth of July at the Red Rocks Amphitheater as his band completed its sound check. The soon-to-be wed couple had originally planned on taking a trip to Europe that Thanksgiving. After getting engaged, they entertained the idea of getting married on this trip and that’s how they decided to elope.

Under the Tuscan winter sun, this elopement in Italy took place in an alluring Italian mansion, Villa Cora located in Florence surrounded by the spectacular Tuscany countryside. This artistically designed villa had a beautiful entrance with antique statues, a grand fountain and impressive green lawns. The Tuscan Wedding handled the wedding planning, ensuring their special day was nothing short of perfect.

John wore a classic grey suit, white shirt, and a charming boutonnière arranged with dark red ranunculus, blue thistle and bits of Italian greens. Hazel chose a unique and breathtaking black mermaid dress with red roses embroidered at the bottom for the engagement and photoshoot. For the wedding ceremony, Hazel changed into a timeless, alluring bridal gown by Pronovias. Stylish long sleeves, a sweetheart neckline, a revealing back and a lovely long veil gave the wedding dress a royal touch. Cherie Spisso dolled up Hazel in delicate daytime make-up and an elegantly elaborate hairdo with a statement hair pin.

For this elopement in Italy, the theme was simple and personal with traces of luxury and grace. The colour palette was out of the ordinary and combined the fall and summer tones of deep reds and dusty blues with lots of greens. White was a prominent colour that tied the various elements together and added sophistication and maturity.

Hazel walked down the aisle carrying a beautiful bouquet of dusty delphinium, white spray roses, blue thistle, dark red ranunculus and garden roses which perfectly matched to John’s boutonniere and the ceremonial floral arrangements. Flowers Living designed the entire floral arrangement for the event.

One could feel that love was in the air as a violinist and harpist played during the ceremony. The most special part of the couple’s day was the exchange of the vows, which they had written themselves. After the ceremony, The Cablook Fotolab took some memorable portraits of the newlyweds in the beautiful garden of the villa, with the stunning combination of the Tuscan fall colours creating a lovely backdrop.

After the shoot, the couple enjoyed an aperitif as well as a selection of finger foods. The talented Sugarcups baked a delicious cake and Flowers Living magnificently decorated it with a cascade of colourful flowers to match the bridal bouquet.

This amazing elopement in Italy ended with an exquisite wedding reception in the White Room of Villa Cora, where a private table for two was perfectly set with candles and flowers. Intricately carved stone interiors, marble furnishings and gold touches lent opulence to this intimate setting. Meanwhile a cozy fireplace and dim candle lighting created a romantic atmosphere for the couple’s first dinner as husband and wife, providing the ideal conclusion to this cherished day and a new chapter in their lives together.

TIP: In the current pandemic where people have no choice but to opt for small, intimate weddings with few or no guests, elopement are a great option to consider for those that don’t want to wait. Eloping can bring excitement, passion and romance to your wedding day and help forgo the stress and hassle of planning in these trying times.
