Amalfi Coast Inspiration at Baddow Park House
The Story: Many couples haven’t had the luxury of fulfilling their wanderlust over the past couple of years with many destination weddings being postponed or even cancelled thanks to the COVID pandemic. The big idea behind this shoot was to showcase how you can be transported anywhere on your wedding from your local venue through the use of carefully selecting details and tasteful theming. In this case, we are transported from Baddow Park House in Essex to the gorgeous Amalfi Coast.
The Location: Baddow Park House is a secluded country manor originally built in 1893 and has recently been transformed to its former glory. It is the perfect blend of traditional and modern, with multiple outdoor areas for al fresco moments. The modern and bright Orangery, complete with lighting and built in bar, is the perfect place to bring the outdoors in. The original period house is also ideal for cosying up later in the evening, as well as for accommodating some of your wedding guests.
The Vibes: A soft and relaxed feast for the senses. The key elements that create this look are the details ━ the Italian-inspired design on the rug, the pearls on the shoes, the lariat-style necklaces and the trolley laden with Italian delicacies.
The Detail: The colour palette was inspired by the Amalfi Coast ━ the zesty yellow of the giant fresh lemons grown and sold by the roadside and the limoncello they are used to make and the blue of the bright sea and the hand painted tiles and decorative plates sold in the shops. Rather than using bright tones throughout the floral design, the yellow and blue were incorporated by using softer blue delphinium and oxypetalum alongside creamier lemon yellow roses and lisianthus, complemented by various other soft cream florals and green foliage to create a more relaxed and welcoming feel. Dressed with flowers and fresh lemons, the striking modern, three-tier cake brings the Mediterranean theme to life adorned with a hand-stenciled tile design on the bottom tier. The hand painted crockery reminiscent of the authentic pieces sold in the Amalfi Coast completes the al fresco Italian feel to perfection.
Tips & Highlights:
- Attention to detail. The elegant yellow sapphire engagement ring, the details of the themed stationery, the cake, the combination of glassware and themed crockery, the pops of colour in the bridesmaids dresses and makeup and all the other little details create a story.
- Keep it subtle with pops of colour. It can be easy to get carried away and overpower the senses with a theme. Incorporating “themed” details alongside classic and softer elements helps reflect a more relaxed and refined style.
- Find a versatile venue. If you have your heart set on a Mediterranean theme but can’t actually get to your desired location, think about what you love about the destination and how you can bring those elements to a venue closer to home.
