AMANDA WAKELEY SS17
A couple of weeks ago we had the pleasure of attending a very exclusive press preview of one of our favourite designers, Amanda Wakeley. Hosted in partnership with Amanda’s London stockist Les Trois Soeurs at the stunning Plateau Canada Wharf, we were treated to such a beautifully elegant morning we couldn’t wait to share the images (by B.LOVED Contributor Daria of Plenty to Declare) with you!
Amanda Wakeley is known for her luxury lifestyle products, from ready to wear, fine jewellery and handbags to of course her exquisite bridalwear. Her signature “clean glam” style is epitomises the B.LOVED bride’s style and the new collection, featuring texture, graphic lace and her first ever range of bridal seperates give brides that illusive combination of contermporary and classic.
We had the chance to speak to Amanda about her bridal brand and the new collection at the event…
What did you do before launching Amanda Wakeley and how does that experience help you now? I decided that when I left school I didn’t want to go the formal route. I was always in a real hurry to grow up and be an adult, so I took myself off to America aged 19 and lived and worked there for four very formative years. I always think of my time in America as my University education. It was a phenomenal experience.
What defines a Wakeley bride? Wakeley women can vary in ages, shapes and sizes. I am proud of the fact that I am able to make so many various kinds of women feel gorgeous, empowered and happy, whenever they wear Wakeley.
What was your starting point for the new collection? I’m constantly working across a few collections and my design inspiration never stops. I find inspiration in people I meet, my travels, nature but most of all from architecture.
How did you develop the designs? My aesthetic vision reflects sleek lines with an impeccable cut, exceptional quality and accessibly luxurious and cocooning fabrics.
What materials and embellishments can you offer? We offer different silhouettes in crepe back satin, Mikado silk, tulle silk, chiffon and fine silk jersey. When it comes to embellishments, we focus on crystals and mainly work with Swarovski. The Amanda Wakeley bride-to-be isn’t necessarily focused on a fussy dress. We feel she wants to wear her dress well and comfortably so.
What makes your collection unique? I do what I do because I want women to feel really good about themselves. That is my real passion. I am a women designing for women and I know how it feels to be in something that makes you feel taller, skinnier, sexier and empowered.
What do you think of trends? Do you follow them or prefer to follow your own style? A bride-to-be who turns to Wakeley for her wedding knows what they are looking for. Our aesthetic is very clean!
What challenges have you set yourself for the next 12 months? It is always busy in the world of Wakeley and the next 12 months have a lot in-store!
