The Aussie Bridal Salon + Interviews with the Designers!

We were so delighted to be invited to the fashion forward event, The Aussie Bridal Salon presented by Knot + Pop at the Town Hall Hotel. The concept was to bring the best wedding dress designers from Australia to London and you just know if Knot + Pop are planning something – it’s going to be good! The beautiful Bo + Luca were there, a label which I have been smitten with since first seeing their ‘Empress of the Moon’ Cape, as well as Cathleen Jia whose modern luxe Anise gown is one of my favourites this season! Also the luxurious Nevenka whose ‘I am not afriad’ dress is just perfect for the coolest of Bohemian Chic Brides! Our fabulous contributor, Philippa Sian Photography attended and captured these beautiful details – and we have an exclusive interview with each designer too!

What is the emphasis of your current collection What is it inspired by?
Saint George’s was released in August 2016, and takes inspiration from the quintessential garden soiree’s set on stately, English grounds, that were depicted in books and movies of the 1900’s. The fluid and unbound silhouettes are uncomplicated and romantic, but the new fine-silk floral details are what define this collection.

Who is your label for? What is there style?
Bo & Luca is designed for the true modern woman. She’s often well-travelled, soulful, has a unique sense of style which incorporates classic items with vintage or heirloom pieces, and has a relaxed and effortlessly-confident way about herself. Bo & Luca resonates with women through our mutual passion for adventure and our desire to take the road less travelled.

Which dress is your best seller?
This year the Isra has been our best seller, which is exciting to us since it’s beadwork and design is more forward than the typical wedding gown. This tells us that brides are looking for something different but still timeless and feminine.

What is the emphasis of your current collection and what is it inspired by?
The Love Struck collection was launched in London at the Bridal Salon, this collection have not even been seen in Australia! The aesthetic of the collection was a touch of glamour from the bygone era, mixed with contemporary flairs of today’s fashion. This has always been our style, to create vintage inspired gowns for the modern day bride.

The Love Struck collection is an extension from our first bridal separates collection Wild Romance. We love encouraging brides to inject their own personal style in their wedding day look. The “layering” concept really allow brides to build their ideal dress style. They can keep it simple with our gorgeous bias cut slips, or add a skirt or top or both to it. The possibilities are endless.

Who is your label for? What is their style?
The modern, unconventional brides. Those who appreciate timeless vintage looks and hand made qualities. Regardless of trends, she understand what suits her personality and body and goes for it.

Which dress is your best seller?
I have one gown (Keirra) from my Designer collection that really sells well, she is from one of my first collections but continues to impress brides today. I think it is because the Kierra gown really represents our brand, vintage inspired with modern elements. Having said that, the new bias cut silk slip Evelyn was a favourite with brides at The Aussie Bridal Salon. At least 95% of the brides tried it on and it just looked amazing on everybody! I am super excited to launch her officially, I think she will become the new favourite.

What is the emphasis of your current collection and what is it inspired by?
My work on a collection starts with fabrics. I’ve been drawn to the exquisite french Chantilly lace and an idea to work with it was on my mind for a while. It all came together this season. Black swan collection had two streams of inspiration. First, I was mesmerised by the ballet dancers and their lightness – you can see the reference to classic ballet in many styles and shapes. As I kept on researching my theme further I came across Darren Aronofsky’s “Black swan’ movie. I am deeply intrigued by the main character and her fierceness and strength, as well as her inner darkness. I am inspired by a woman who is so determined to achieve her dreams – no matter what.

Who is your label for? What is their style?
Nevenka is for women who are drawn to fine detail and understand quality and slow fashion. Nevenka women are strong, alluring, unassuming, mothers, bohemian gypsies, globetrotters, CEOs who know how to make a corporate outfit look chic and it-girls who have a marvellous party to dress up to every night. I am amazed how diverse Nevenka women are.

Which dress is your best seller?
‘there is beauty in all things’, and ‘she is untameable’ and ‘symbol of freedom’ also the ‘black swan’ dresses – these silhouettes are timeless, suit many body.
