Become A Wedding Professional With The UK Academy of Wedding & Event Planning

Did you know that many of us working in the wonderful world of weddings didn’t start here? We found ourselves drawn to the exciting, fast paced and creative industry where luxury service is key, attention to detail and an eye for style. With a background in Interior Design, our Editor in Chief Louise Beukes became a well know wedding stylist, founder of B.LOVED blog and she now also runs the B.LOVED Hive producing the most beautiful brand shoots for leading wedding industry suppliers. If you dream of following her footsteps into planning beautiful weddings + events, we recommend that you take a look at the UK Academy of Wedding + Event Planning, (also known as the UKAWEP). Martha is here to tell you more about becoming a wedding professional and we have two amazing planners we’ve had the pleasure of working with and featuring right here on B.LOVED, who have trained with the UKAWEP, and they share their experiences – a little piece of them at work too!

“A successful career in the wedding industry today is not only the most viable it’s ever been, it’s also fast becoming a top career opportunity. Being able to make a living from a passion for everything wedding related is a dream come true for many women (and men). Flexible working hours, an escape from the drab office environment, and the chance to own your own business are all major benefits. That’s not to say working in weddings is a walk in the park. It is hard work, long hours and requires a big amount of dedication. Having said that there is nothing quite as rewarding as seeing the wedding you’ve spent months planning with your couple come together and culminate in a most fantastic celebration.

But where to begin? Like with any successful career you need to start at the bottom and get qualified. You may have pulled off your own exceptional wedding or planned some wonderful parties for friends and family and so think that getting a qualification isn’t worth your time. But when it comes to actually selling your services and working with couples on what is often considered the most important day of their lives, it really pays to know your stuff. It is great if you’ve discovered a natural affinity for planning or designing weddings and parties, but you also need knowledge and skills to make a success of yourself. This is where gaining a qualification comes in. Our  wedding planning, styling and design courses will teach you everything you need to know to confidently take on paid clients and deliver amazing weddings.

We know deciding to make a career change and going back to studying is an overwhelming prospect which is why it’s important to pick the right course for you with the right institution. Here’s some more info on what you can expect when taking one of our courses:

Getting Accredited
There are a variety of courses open to you but most are not certified by an educational body. The Academy is approved by NCFE to deliver online courses under our IIQ License (Investing In Quality) and ALL our courses are accredited through NCFE and regulated by them. Our courses are very much recognised in the UK and are benchmarked at NVQ Level 3 and 4 as set out by Ofqual (The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation).

Our online courses have been designed specifically to meet the needs of learners who prefer to study from home. Accreditation by NCFE is a guarantee of quality.

Learn from the Experts
The course materials we offer through the UK Academy of Wedding and Event Planning have been written in the UK by wedding professionals who have experience and knowledge in setting up and running their own businesses. We dedicate a lot of time working with those in the industry and our Advisory Board, which is made up of a variety of talented UK and international Wedding Professionals, is a great example of this.

Study at Your Own Convenience
Our course material is compatible across any platform and viewable on any device. We have spent years developing our virtual campus to make sure you can access it at any time and in any place. The beauty of e-learning content is it can be continually updated to meet the changes of the industry and so ensure it stays relevant. Our material is updated on an ongoing basis. For example, the minute Pantone announces new colours we create inspiration boards and insert them into the course material, so our students are working with the latest colour trends.

Join a Supportive Community
Training is about so much more than sending out course materials. Our students are nurtured along the way both during and after their time with us. We care about their success, as their success is ultimately our success. We have a very lively community of students, graduates and tutors in our private Facebook group, a place to share, inspire and collaborate.”

What Our Students Say

“Studying at my own pace was ideal. My course tutor was very responsive, and my assignments were always graded in a very timely manner so I was able to get into a good flow, studying part-time and completing the course in about five months. Despite the fact that the course is online, undoubtedly the most beneficial aspect for me was that it gets you ‘doing’ with regular unit projects and assignments. Having assessed work to complete meant that I was not only learning new skills but I was having to review the learning materials and apply what I had learnt in a very practical way. It also gave me the confidence to be able to apply the ‘theory’ in a realistic setting.

I also appreciated the fact that the course reflected what is really going on in the industry at the moment; incorporating up-to-date video interviews with professionals in the industry, trend reports and challenges that planners are facing today. The course took me through a number of different modules, touching on every aspect of wedding planning and design. By the end of the course, I already had in place many of the resources that I needed to launch my wedding planning business including a consultation and proposal template, pricing structure, contract and business plan.”

“Enrolling as a student with the UK Academy of Wedding and Event Planning was an essential part of starting my career as a wedding planner and stylist. The Advanced Diploma [in Special Event Planning and Design] was a great course that provided in-depth knowledge for planning and designing a variety of events and occasions. Each training module was straight forward and easy to engage with, and the projects/assignments were helpful for developing practical skills and an understanding of the industry. It was really valuable to have additional resources, such as the student Facebook group, too. Not only did I graduate from the Academy feeling confident in my ability to curate and produce special events but I also benefited from learning about sales and suppliers too.”
