Blush, Grey and Gold Leaf

We’re so delighted to share today’s feature by Helaina Storey Wedding Design with an utterly pretty shoot she created to put her own brand and tastes out there! Blush and gold leaf are her thing and she has created a wedding concept straight from her heart and dreams using this palette and I’m completely in love with it! This look can translate to different styles and settings – say a dreamy barn venue or beautiful summer wedding in a garden setting! Here is Helaina to talk us through her ideas and vision, and also her passion and business as a wedding planner…

“I set up Helaina Storey Wedding Design as a result of planning my own wedding day in France last Summer and falling head over heels for the industry and the people that make it such a wonderful, uplifting community to be a part of. I discovered I had a natural ability to organise and plan, along with a creative eye for detail which lends itself well to styling and adding those individual, personal touches that mean so much to my couples. My approach is fresh, contemporary and elegant with a bohemian edge and entirely bespoke to every couple I work with.

I love nothing more than the opportunity to team up with other talented creatives and making magic together. My inspiration for this shoot was really just everything I adore and what I feel best represents me as a brand. There has been a gradual movement away from set themes and colour schemes in wedding planning and I wanted my first collaborative styled shoot to reflect this and to instead be a mixture of everything that excites and inspires me. I am a big believer that planning a wedding day should not just be a tick box exercise, but allow you to explore your creativity and work with suppliers who’s work speaks to you, reflects your personalities and makes your hearts sing. So I wanted to take the same approach whilst planning this shoot, with an overall focus on style rather than ‘trends’ and taking inspiration from my everyday life and interests.

Whilst I had a general visual design concept in mind (it’s no secret that everything blush and smothered with gold leaf is a bit of an obsession of mine), my priority was to have other individuals on-board that share my style, who I wholeheartedly trust creatively and who I would be super excited to work with, which is exactly how I would want to feel as a Bride-to-be planning my big day. Gone are the days of matchy matchy décor and samey looking wedding setups, as we welcome more and more couples breaking tradition to follow their hearts and be their unique, wonderful selves, just rolling with whatever makes them feel good. As a result, I think the true essence of my brand aesthetic and vision naturally comes across in this beautiful collection of images by Rebecca Goddard Photography and perfectly translates my style and taste. I am so delighted with the outcome and truly grateful to everyone that made it possible.

We collectively aimed for a romantic, feminine vibe with a modern, botanical edge in muted, dusky tones. The combination of soft floaty textures and a stark minimal backdrop, barely-there ghost table and natural, wild florals by the fabulous Jennifer Pinder worked perfectly for achieving this. Rewritten design contemporary bridesmaid’s gowns for those looking for something a little cooler than the more traditional bridal party wear and their bohemian style gowns in stunning shades of concrete and peach complimented the rest of the shoot amazingly. Sarie Joynes Jewellery and Georgina Read Creative’s exquisite, contemporary, minimal designs satisfied my gold leaf addiction, along with an awesome grey marble and rose quartz cake by Blossom & Crumb. Lancaster & Cornish, my go-to supplier for beautiful naturally, hand-dyed linen, even managed to incorporate some gold leaf into our incredible grey-green silk backdrop. (You can never have too much gold leaf!) Duchess & Butler provided our tableware in hues of blush, grey and gold and furniture props along with a few from my own hire inventory. Our hair and makeup artist, Alison Jenner worked pure magic on our models with beautifully contrasting looks, who wore leafy accessories in gold (of course) by Tilly Thomas Lux and Harriet Wilde Shoes. Quite the dream team and the most heavenly end result I could have hoped for!

On the subject of staying true to your individuality and embracing the quirky, Brides and Grooms can find me exhibiting at The Most Curious Wedding Fair in London on 18th and 19th March. It’s a wedding show for the coolest, most style-savvy couples looking for inspiration beyond the norm and makes for an epic day out with catwalk shows, pink gin cocktails and craft beer and 160 of the most fashion-forward, design-focused wedding suppliers out there, without a single chair cover or satin bow in sight! Hope to see you there!!
