BOTANICALS AND BERRIES STYLED SHOOT
Today I’m sharing my new-found love for Autumn weddings with an editorial shoot I styled earlier this year, in rich berry shades. Capturing the timeless beauty of natural, organic elements, an emerging trend for 2015 and inspired by RHS botanical prints I picked a warm yet pretty palette including blush, berry, fig and soft sage hues. Our venue, Clifton Nurseries, a hidden gem tucked away behind a West London street provided the perfect location with its light-filled greenhouses sheltering us from the seasonal weather. Botanical elements are evident in every detail – in the lace and embroidery of the carefully selected dresses and accessories from Luella’s Boudoir, loose tumbling floral arrangements by Philippa Craddock, hand-illustrated stationery from The Story House and Cakes by Krishanthi’s hand-painted cake. It was all photographed by the very talented Anushé Low.
I wanted to create an informal, yet incredibly romantic setting and worked closely with the team at Philippa Craddock Flowers to ensure the floral elements combined the right balance of wedding ‘pretty’ with a rustic, organic feel incorporating tumbling foliage, berries and artichokes to add structure to the otherwise loose arrangements. We used an old, battered trestle table with white iron chairs, I loved the texture, with cut glass crockery and floral painted linen, a low, rustic foliage runner dotted with grapes, figs, blackberries and artichokes and added tall dinner candles for a romantic glow. I also created a sweetheart table, a gorgeous trend for romantic couples wanting to secure a few moments to themselves on their wedding day. Set under a gazebo, with hanging globes laden with fruits and flowers, and a table set with floral linen and a delicious centrepiece this makes a perfect hideaway for the newly-weds!
Each dress and accessory was chosen to pick up on the botanical story, with a delicate lace sleeve or a floral back detail. Each look was styled with either fresh flowers in the hair or a floral crown, a lovely way to incorporate freshness into a bridal outfit once the bouquet has been safely put to one side.. My favourite detail is the floral veil – a delicate but real statement piece for a bride looking to make an entrance. Imagine how beautiful this would look standing at the top of the aisle, all eyes would certainly be on you!
